I gave the winner the Pleasant Surprise vote but didn't expect it to do at all well as I know Haven normally hates X-Factor contestants regardless of the song.
But then they don't like uptempo music with tunes either.
For what it's worth I have no idea why Skinny Lister did so badly. I thought it would finish top 5.
They sounds too retro for the 2010s. Plus some have a notion that the Pogues are the only celtic-rock band - there were loads around in the 2010s, and they don't actually sound like the Pogues either. And most of them are not Irish. Dropkick Murphys, American band, who in spite of no real chart success sold out Brixton Academy when I went to see them in 2015, there's also Rumjacks who are Australian and had a number of hits in my chart (Crosses For Eyes, Blows & Unkind Words, A Fistful O' Roses).
Whilst I like a mix of styles, that's generally tilting towards my favourite genre but I guess it's not popular enough here.
