Firstly, Skellums are not a one-song act, in fact they had a #3 in my chart too.
I find it great that a bunch of guys like that pick up guitars and form a band and make fun pop-rock music. Maybe you don't like it, but it's great that bands in the 2010s were doing that, and I hope it will continue to happen.
Not only that, but they don't need to go to a record company to sign them but can simply record it and release it, put it on Spotify and youtube and hope people find it and like it.
That is everything that is good about the way music has worked in the 2010s, even if this kind of band will never get anywhere near the UK chart.
Clearly there’s a Marmite thing going on here, and it’s not that I can’t envisage why someone might hate this track. But I genuinely find it a very enjoyable listen, and would unlike raliverpool definitely buy another beer or two in a pub hosting a band like this on a Saturday night, and certainly wouldn’t swap them for a karaoke X-Factor covers act!
I find it more of a snobbery thing going on than a marmite / dislike thing. It's more like "we shouldn't have bands form like this and release music, it's so amateurish..."
but saying you'd rather hear some britpop tribute band?
raliverpool where do you think the Beatles started out? In the Cavern, wasn't it? We have the same kind of thing in London, particularly in Camden. I heard many little wannabe bands there. Many of them had the sound but no tunes. Occasionally you'd hear a good song too.
