Pretty impressed with those singles of the year, good taste Haven! And the Haven Acts of the year are very reflective of the times. Brace yourself Andy, you're going to love this year's number one song!!

He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother did get points from me, it reached #1 in my chart... but in 1969! It was also a retro-chart #1 that year. "What About Love" by Heart was also a #5 hit in my chart but in 1985. Heart made their debut in my chart way back in 1976, peaking at #30 with "Crazy On You".

He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother reached UK #1 approximately 18 years and 10 months after it did so in my chart. That's the 4th longest. Elvis re-issues don't count because they got to #1 the first time as well.
The longer ones are:
Ben E King - Stand By Me (25 years and 8 months)
Jackie Wilson - Reet Petite (29 years and 1 month)
and the record holder is:
Tony Christie - (Is This The Way To) Amarillo (33 years and 3 months)

Wondering what this #1 is going to be - can't think off hand of anyuthing odd this year.
Would initially have guessed at Belinda's Heaven or one of Pet Shop Boys'.

I noticed that not only did the Pet Shop Boys get all their songs to #1 but they had the highest points totals for their number ones.
Always On My Mind was twice over 220, Left To My Own Devices reached 219 one week and Heart had two weeks with 218 and 217. Those are higher totals than any other artist ever had in a week at #1. There were a few others over 210 though, the highest score for Domino Dancing in any of its weeks.
There are songs that people charted at different times, but "Need You Tonight" had too many charting it in 1987 to be that high in the 1988 chart of the year.

15) PET SHOP BOYS - LEFT TO MY OWN DEVICES 950 POINTSThe third of four songs from the Pet Shop Boys that feature in the Year End Top 40. Left To My Own Devices is still charting as we move into 1989 so has the potential to still cross the 1,000 points barrier. All four of the Pet Shop Boys chart-toppers from this year picked up points on every chart (like all their other songs) The only other song to achieve this in 1988 was the current chart-topper from Neneh Cherry with Buffalo Stance, which appeared at number 68 on the countdown.
