Ok, so S’Express and Heart are out the way, and I was expecting them top 2 in that order!

1) ADVENTURES – BROKEN LAND 1,208 pointsAnd so here’s our biggest song of the year…surprise!! How did The Adventures become the biggest song of 1988 when it didn’t even reach number one on the weekly chart? Eight of its eleven weeks spent on the chart were in the Top Ten; it spent two weeks at number two in April, stuck behind S-Express but just wouldn’t seem to leave the chart and it also scored massively with Andy, Raliverpool, Smokeyb and Thorney as well as scoring big with the more mainstream / pop voters (myself included, I absolutely love this song) Points Andy 181 Cool Christie 16 Darkstar 0 Earl Purple 89 Kingpin 50 Mark 79 Pop Chart Freak 93 Raliverpool 149 Rubcale 32 Shireblogger 88 Smokeyb 146 Smurfie 91 Thorney 149 Whitneyfan 45 TOTAL POINTS 1,208

Great number one! Thank you for compiling Kingpin! I will try not to leave so many gaps in my chart for 1989.

Some have staggered runs because they came out more than once, or were hits in the USA first. Broken Land I think spent a few weeks bubbling and some charted it already, whilst others like me charted it when it actually got into the UK chart. In my chart it did peak at #2 behind Fairground Attraction.
"Heaven Is A Place On Earth" reached #2 in my chart in 1987 after entering the US chart, kept out by Freddie Mercury's "Barcelona".
4 singles topped my chart for 6 weeks in 1988 and another one did for 5 weeks. So those 5 singles too up 29 of the weeks at #1. The 4 six-week number ones were a male indie band who had just split with a slow song, a female pure-pop singer doing a ballad of lost love, a heavy rock group and an electronic pop duo. Quite diverse?

Never expected this - it's okay but not great!
Kim Wilde would have been a better #1!

Great number one! Thank you for compiling Kingpin! I will try not to leave so many gaps in my chart for 1989. Ha, yes, don't leave me to fly the SAW flag solo in 1989!! Loads of SAW classics to rate, another vintage year!!

This song has huge personal significance for me. Over the last year and a half I’ve lost just over four stones, going from almost morbidly obese to a 'normal' BMI – this is my almost there/‘home-stretch’ song on the rowing machine. What an awesome achievement. People who have the determination and perseverance to accomplish this type of goal earn tremendous respect from me. Well done.

Great #1, you were right I'm pleased and surprised, especially as I didn't chart Kim Wilde which was #2. Cant believe what my highest scoring song of the year was (that made the Top 100) looking at the list, would have assumed Beds are burning, being such a huge Oils fan. Great work Kingpin, and great personal achievement!

I can see from the points of the individual songs that Foolish Beat was for me a little bit higher than the others. It's hard for me to pick really given my big hits were all of different genres but I'd generally say "Sweet Child O' Mine" was my top single of 1988.
