"No More Heroes" is deposed after one week on top by the Bee Gees. Besides, it's not true, we do have Heroes, David Bowie enters at #13. Like the song currently at #1, that song eventually became a UK #1 in an inferior cover. It doesn't manage to be the highest entry though. Like in the UK chart, that goes to Rod Stewart, who entered at #7 in the UK chart this week, which was a high entry back then, and he might have expected to go to #1 on the strength of that, but whilst it did climb to #4 the following week then spend a few weeks at #3, it wasn't able any further progress.
In addition to those and Chicago, we have two cover versions, both of which were hits previously in 1964. The Searchers' version of "Needles And Pins" wasn't the original either, Jackie DeShannon recorded it before them and Sonny Bono co-wrote it. The Searchers got to NM #3 though, but that isn't as high as "She's Not There" which peaked at #2 for The Zombies later that year - kept off the top by the Beatles' "And I Love Her".

On this week Brotherhood of Man had # 1 debut in "Gražios Dainos" with "Highwayman".

Figaro will reach the chart at the start of 1978. Little chance of it getting to #1 though.
From the chart, Rod Stewart is a likely future Haven Factor candidate, other possible ones would be The Stranglers, Boomtown Rats (although they didn't have that many hits), Yes (not many hits, but loads of albums), David Essex, Leo Sayer, Gladys Knight & The Pips and yeah.. Elvis Presley. Generation X if combined with Billy Idol, or Billy Idol on his own.
The following have already been in Haven Factor:
The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Carpenters, Status Quo, David Bowie, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, The Clash.

When I did my chart back in 1977 it was actually the other way round, Queen went to number one then the Bee Gees replaced them on top. Current Haven Factor act Styx get a new entry. The Barron Knights return after a "barren" spell, making fun of Leo Sayer, Brotherhood Of Man and The Floaters on the A-side, the B-side had a parody of a parody (D.I.V.O.R.C.E) as well as Lucille and another one I can't remember... E.L.O's high entry is well known but I seem to recall it only peaked at #20 in the UK singles chart. Jonathan Richman's tune was played on Top of the Pops with Legs & Co dressed up as ancient Egyptians dancing around mummies with pyramids in the background, or something like that anyway. Linda Ronstadt replaces herself in the chart, with an even older song, this time a Buddy Holly cover. But it isn't the oldest cover to reach the chart, Slade's medley is of two songs from the 1930s.

Queen get to #1 yet again. The flip-side of this hit "We Will Rock You" will be charted separately at the point it enters the US top 40 (which is 26 November).
As we recently lost one Elvis, we gain a new one. Declan McManus i.e. Elvis Costello gets his first hit after "The Red Shoes" failed to reach the UK chart earlier in the year.
Darts make their debut with a medley of two covers. Daddy Cool was never originally a hit but "The Girl Can't Help It" reached #12 for Little Richard. I've always thought though it sounds better in a medley, a bit repetitive on its own.
The Jam use the f-word in The Modern World, "Don't give a f***" - is that the first song to use that phrase?
Two further covers of old songs, "Dancin' Party" reached #3 for Chubby Checker in 1962 whilst "I Will" peaked at #8 for Billy Fury in 1964.

Queen stay at number one. What I consider to be one of the most unfair flops of 1977, Georgina Bailey by Noosha Fox (singer from Fox) only reached #31 thus missing the "top 30" but still got on Top of the Pops. In this chart it enters as the highest new entry at #12. Deniece Williams also failed to reach the top 30 peaking one place lower at #32.
In what appears to be a contest at the end of 1977 as to who can have a hit with the oldest track, I think the Brighouse And Rastrick Brass Band win the battle, as the Floral Dance dates all the way back to 1911. We'll also have "Don't Dilly Dally On The Way" coming up, as well as Dooley Wilson doing "As Time Goes By" and of course Bing Crosby doing "White Christmas" shortly after he has died, which I guess was ok as a choice, but he had that duo with David Bowie they saved for 5 more years before releasing.
Dolly Parton enters at #36, her sister falls from #11 to #13 but I can't see Dolly climbing as high as #11 with this song.
Abba reached #5 but it's their 2nd lowest peaking single to date, only "Honey Honey" doing worse with a #7 peak. In fact all their other hits have reached the top 2 other than "Fernando" which spent 4 weeks at #3 stuck behind the massive duo of John Miles "Music" and 10cc's "I'm Mandy Fly Me", with 4 of those hits peaking at #1.

Having not had a UK #1 single since the Beatles' "Get Back" (because in reality he played no part in the Ballad Of John And Yoko) Paul McCartney finally made up for it with Mull Of Kintyre, which stayed on top for 9 weeks selling over 2 million. On the NM chart he reached #1 with "Another Day", "Live And Let Die", "Jet", "Band On The Run" and "Let 'Em In". Still he also gets the highest new entry this week with "Mull Of Kintyre".
The flip-side "Girls School" will be on the playlist to chart separately on 24 December when it reached the US top 40. Over there, it was the only credited track, since whilst there are often US locations in UK hits, they somehow felt a Scottish location wouldn't be that popular in the USA.
The second hit by the Boomtown Rats "Mary OF The 4th Form" along with "Diamond Smiles" were my least favourite of their singles, but they'll take the chart by storm again in 1978.
"White Punks On Dope" is one of those songs I think is over-rated. Many critics will say that 1977 was a far better year for music than 1976 because of the presence of certain artists. The Stranglers have done well on this chart including a #1, the Jam have had limited success but are now in the top 10, the Clash had a few small hits, the Sex Pistols did reach the top 10 a few times and the Boomtown Rats got to #1 with their debut hit. Perhaps that added some extra variety to the chart that wasn't there in 1976.

The Bob Welch song that missed your chart is brilliant I think. It was also recorded by Fleetwood Mac when he was in the band, and is one of their hidden gems from that era.

Queen's "We Will Rock You" joins "We Are The Champions" in the chart, and maybe they'll replace themselves, as will have to be the case if Queen are going to be Christmas number one, as "We Are The Champions" would otherwise have to stay on top for 8 weeks for that to happen. Bohemian Rhapsody was number one for 7 weeks before surrendering on 27 December 1975 to "I Believe In Father Christmas" and I'd generally count that as Christmas #1 although I often simply count whatever is #1 on the last Saturday before Christmas day (or on it). In any case, Christmas #1 for 1977 will be whatever is #1 on the chart dated 24 December. Chic make their chart debut this week, and Hot Chocolate make a return inside the top 20. Yes's single is called "Going For The One" but that doesn't appear to be a position this song is likely to reach with such a lowly new entry.
Earth Wind & Fire fail to chart, in a song where they appear to be singing What's The Story Morning Glory or something like that.. James & Bobby Purify had a hit called "Morning Glory" in 1976. In any case, I think their next single is "Fantasy" and that will almost certainly beat their previous peak of #13 with "Saturday Nite".

Queen 5 weeks at number one with Rod Stewart 4 weeks at #2 behind it.
Donna Summer continues to pile in the hits this year, 4th hit in the space of a few months with one in the chart at the start of the year, and Love's Unkind isn't even her last single of the year.
Bonnie Tyler gets an entry with her wonderful "It's A Heartache" and then a singer Haven doesn't appreciate and "As" is rather long (I couldn't find a single edit for it).
The battle for the oldest recording to chart, two songs both from 1942 so not sure which was recorded first "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby and "As Time Goes By" by Dooley Wilson, which is the version from Casablanca but he wasn't the first to record it, it dates back to 1931. Dooley Wilson couldn't actually play piano though.
Really Free was performed on Top of the Pops (Dave Lee Travis presented so I'm not sure it was in the replayed episodes) and I do recall it being rather funny at the time, whilst Carl Douglas did record some other songs besides Kung Fu Fighting, and this one reached the UK top 30. No luck however for Village People who will have to wait another year, for Julie Covington covering a song that was top 5 for Alice Cooper and Elvis doing it his way but I prefer Frank Sinatra's way and even the Sex Pistols version.

For me "Love's Unkind" always will belong to Sophie Lawrence, despite that her record was a cover version.

Now the effect of the US chart getting songs to be hits earlier again, Billy Joel flies in this week at #4. The album The Stranger was released in the USA in 1977 although not in the UK until 1978, but when I was asked what my definitive year for music was and I picked 1977 I didn't include "The Stranger" on my list because I thought of it as 1978, but certainly it could go into my 1977 playlist.
Just The Way You Are is just a pure love ballad, but the album is well mixed, with "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" actually being my favourite song from the album.
Incidentally if "Just The Way You Are" is the best soft rock ballad of its style, then possibly the second best ever is going to hit my playlist in just 2 weeks time, so let's see how that turns out.
I'm ready to move on to the 1978 playlist now, but will spend a bit of time listening to the best albums of 1977, I'm listening to The Stranger now, will probably add in Rumours and a few others. 1977 was an incredible year for albums, and I'm going to allow anything that was either released in 1976 then crossed over to be big in 1977 or released in 1977 (at least in the USA) then became big in 1978 (e.g. Bat Out Of Hell, although I was listening to that last week after Jim Steinman died).
I supposed I should add The Damned to this list too, and "Damned Damned Damned" and "Music For Pleasure" were both released in 1977.

For me "Love's Unkind" always will belong to Sophie Lawrence, despite that her record was a cover version. You just hate Donna Summer so even when she does a song you like you'll listen to a cover rather than her version.
In 1977 we've had from Donna Summer "Winter Melody" (end of 1976 but ran into the start of 1977) which is quite a light pop song that appears to sample "Do The Hustle" by Van McCoy, "I Feel Love" which became a disco classic, "Down Deep Inside" then the totally retro "I Remember Yesterday" and the pure pop sing-along "Love's Unkind" and if you look above "I Love You" has now also entered the chart, although for me that's by far the weakest of the lot.

In fact I'm going to include "I Remember Yesterday" on my albums from 1977 to listen to playlist. These are albums either released in 1977 or released near the end of 1976 but were essentially still "big" in 1977,
Queen: A Day At The Races / News Of The World Electric Light Orchestra: A New World Record / Out Of The Blue Fleetwood Mac: Rumours Billy Joel: The Stranger Meat Loaf: Bat Out Of Hell Damned: Damned Damned Damned / Music For Pleasure The Jam: In The City / This Is A Modern World Stranglers: Rattus Norvegicus / No More Heroes David Bowie: Low / Heroes Clash: The Clash Sex Pistols: Never Mind The Boll*cks Blondie: Blondie / Plastic Letters Rod Stewart: Foot Loose And Fancy Free Donna Summer: I Remember Yesterday Abba: Arrival
That's quite a lot of albums. Any others?

Twiggy - Please Get My Name Right Brotherhood of Man - Oh Boy! Not planning to listen to those two. Twiggy probably isn't on Spotify anyway. Maybe she doesn't want to expose users to torture. I assume her version of "A Woman In Love" is on her album though. The Three Degrees had a big hit with it later.
