I just logged into UKMix. Already had an account there.
I see an Artists League. Not quite Haven Factor, there is no early elimination, and a series of matches against one other artist.
Could be an interesting concept here with a "not big name artists" contest.

A classic song as the highest entry this week, Odyssey had 5 hits peaking in the UK at #1, #3, #4, #5 and #6 (but not #2) within the space of a few years, and this was the #5. The Yannis Markopoulos track is an instrumental and was a TV theme (and sounds nothing like Chris De Burgh...)
I've listened to a number of the albums on the list, although I didn't think much of large parts of "Low" which has a number of weird instrumental tracks at the end. Perhaps he released too many albums, but he's always been like that for me, some brilliant stuff but a lot of music I just don't "get".

That is it then, the NM Christmas number one of 1977 is now Billy Joel with "Just The Way You Are", whilst among others the Bee Gees get a new entry with "Stayin' Alive" having had a #1 with "How Deep Is Your Love", the song I had as my Christmas #1 when I first did my chart in 1977 and which was #3 in the UK behind The Floral Dance and Mull Of Kintyre.
If we're into romantic soft-rock ballads then we have another one come along as Dan Hill enters with "Sometimes When We Touch", a song co-written by Barry Mann, whose early compositions included "Who Put The Bomp In The Bomp..." and "Counting Teardrops" both of which he recorded himself, the latter a hit as a cover by Emile Ford & The Checkmates. Later on he stuck to just writing songs for others, often with his wife Cynthia Weil providing the lyrics and their biggest hit "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" was a massive #1 at the start of 1965. I also credit Barry Mann as a part songwriter on the Bat Out Of Hell album, which is supposedly the biggest selling album all written by one person (Jim Steinman) but that's only because Barry Mann never sued him for blatant plagiarism. (Compare "Home Of The Brave" with "All Revved Up With No Place To Go").
In any case, I believe that the story behind "Sometimes When We Touch" is that it was originally written with different music by Dan Hill alone but it got rejected by the record company, and at some point he met with Barry Mann who said he'd help him with the song, and essentially wrote a new tune for it to Dan Hill's lyrics.
Dan Hill never had any other UK hits but did have a US hit with "Can't We Try" a duet with Vonda Shepard in 1987 (yes, she was recording back then long before that Ally McBeal stuff), which also scraped into my chart. He's also written songs for other artists including fellow Canadian Céline Dion.
Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally" is actually a duet with Marcella Detroit. Maybe I should credit her on it.
Uptown Top Ranking was perhaps a surprise UK #1, and was based on some other reggae songs.

Both the UK and US had frozen charts so I pulled in the one that failed to get in last week and the two that failed the week before and that means we have 3 new entries this week. There are 3 new ones for the first week of 1978 and the second week is massive with 13 new songs including a classic.
Billy Joel now has a 3rd week on top with Donna Summer 4 weeks at #2 with the singles by Dan Hill, The Bee Gees and Eric Clapton (and now Marcella Detroit added in to the credit) climbing into the top 10 with Althia and Donna just outside. (Note: it says Althia on the cover of the single but her name is normally spelt Althea. I don't know why there's the difference but I'm using the spelling on the cover to determine how I credit it).
Had there not been frozen charts this would have been a UK chart for the week leading up to Christmas (as there would be no sales on Christmas day or Boxing day) and so Bing Crosby would be probably as his peak, but in my chart I consider it the chart after Christmas and he falls 2 places but will go into very quick descent next week, and with 13 songs due to enter on 14 January, we may even find next week is his only further week in the chart.
In any case, I can now compile the chart of the year, which is a 53 week year.
