As for 2021 albums, have you checked out Turnstile - 'Glow On', the singles didnt do as well as they maybe should in my chart but the album is brilliant, its been top 10 in mnay year end polls. they have 4 top 100 hits but I guess I didnt pay them enough attention at the time.

I haven't checked out the album but I did listen to a few singles, I remember the one with Blood Orange because it was on my release radar, I will have to give it a listen. If I had a bit more time I was going to check out a few best of lists to see what I missed but I plan onto moving onto 2022 albums by next week before I get too far behind on them, I will give it a listen though

BIFFY CLYRO - The Myth Of The Happily Ever After
Release Date: October 22, 2021"The Myth of the Happily Ever After" is the ninth studio album by Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro, It is said to be the 'sister album' to their 2020 album "A Celebration of Endings" and entered the UK album chart at number 4. “This is a reaction to ‘A Celebration of Endings’,” says vocalist / guitarist Simon Neil. “This album is a real journey, a collision of every thought and emotion we’ve had over the past eighteen months. There was a real fortitude in ‘A Celebration’ but in this record we’re embracing the vulnerabilities of being a band and being a human in this twisted era of our lives. Even the title is the polar opposite. It’s asking, do we create these narratives in our own minds to give us some security when none of us know what’s waiting for us at the end of the day?” 1. DumDum 8 2. A Hunger in Your Haunt 10 3. Denier 8 4. Separate Missions 7 5. Witch’s Cup 9.5 6. Holy Water 8 7. Errors in the History of God 7.5 8. Haru Urara 7.5 9. Unknown Male 01 8.5 10. Existed 6.5 11. Slurpy Slurpy Sleep Sleep 8SummaryI'm going into this album not expecting too much, the singles for the most part were pretty low key for Biffy Clyro apart from "A Hunger in Your Haunt" which is a banger. Interesting that this is an album that is the opposite vibe to "A Celebration of Endings”, the first thing I notice is the atmospheric opening track "DumDum", overall the sound is more experimental and creative than Biffy Clyro's previous efforts, it's quite a mellow album in general actually. The second thing I notice is the poor selection of singles, "Witch’s Cup" just screams Biffy single, it is pretty epic where as "Unknown Male 01" and "Errors in the History of God" don't strike me as single quality, but maybe they were trying to release a selection of the most un-biffy songs as singles. What we do have as an album is heartfelt softness and crushing riffs, so in that regard it is a familiar Biffy Clyro formula but this could well be the most eclectic body of songs they have made into an album 8.04/10

Yeah I think the singles put me off for a while, I'd say its worth a listen for "Witch’s Cup", but apart from that and "A Hunger in Your Haunt", it's a bit light on quality hits. The rest of the album is a bit experimental but worth at least a listen, it's taken me until today to give it a full listen!

WEBBED WING - What’s So F*cking Funny?
Taylor Madison, the mastermind behind Superheaven/Daylight is back with his new project Webbed Wing, thanks to TheThorne for pointing me in the direction of these guys, they are the perfect blend of 90's Grunge with more modern stoner rock traits, its a good mix of genres and when put a knife-wielding clown on the cover you have my attention, their sound isn't massively removed from what Taylor Madison was releasing with Superheaven. Release Date: November 12, 20211. Years 8 2. Jesus's Age 8.5 3. Make A Dime 9 4. Dream Come True 8 5. For Real 7.5 6. Need You Around 8 7. Old Times 7.5 8. Same Thing To Me 8 9. Taylor's Theme 7 10. Saturdays 8 11. All I Could Ever Want 7.5 12. Shed A Tear 8.5
SummaryIf your looking for 90's nostalgia with thick layered grungy distorted guitar riffs over pop melodies then this album is for you on the latest album from Philadelphia-based Taylor Madison, formerly of the grunge band Superheaven. There is lots to like here, think Teenage Fanclub meets the Lemonheads, "Make A Dime" is brilliant, I love "Jesus's Age" too and "Shed A Tear" is a great song to close the album, I always like it when an album ends on a high, nice energy, bit of harmonica, love it 7.96/10

VOLBEAT - Servant Of The Mind
Release Date: December 3, 2021
Ok the last few albums from 2021 coming up today then I can move onto 2022, I cant leave these two out, first up is the eighth studio album by Danish rock band Volbeat, these guys are huge in Europe and in America with 6 #1 albums in their native Denmark and 10 #1 singles in the American Rock Charts. On 2 June 2021, the songs "Wait a Minute My Girl" and "Dagen Før" (featuring Alphabeat's Stine Bramsen) debuted as the first two of four singles before the album's 3 December release 1. Temple Of Ekur 8.5 2. Wait A Minute My Girl 10 3. The Sacred Stones 7 4. Shotgun Blues 8 5. The Devil Rages On 7.5 6. Say No More 7.5 7. Heaven’s Descent 7.5 8. Dagen Før (Feat. Stine Bramsen) 9.5 9. The Passenger 7.5 10. Step Into Light 7.5 11. Becoming 8.5 12. Mindlock 8 13. Lasse’s Birgitta 7.5Summary"Servant Of The Mind" is true to the Volbeat formula of big metal riffs and wistful rockabilly vocals from frontman Michael Poulsen, he has such a distinctive voice. Often described as heavy metal but this is more on the pop side due to elements of 70s rock and rockabilly that permeate throughout their music creating an unconventional blend of metal and mainstream music, there are some clear inspiration taken from older rock icons too such as Elvis Presley. That's if Elvis was a steampunk frontman of a rockabilly metal band ofcourse. My highlights on their new album are opening track "Temple Of Ekur" with its mystical sounding note selection and sing along pop chorus, next up is 2 and a half minute pop punk banger "Wait A Minute My Girl" complete with 50's inspired rhythm and blues piano and saxophone. Another gem from this album is "Dagen Før" featuring Alphabeat's Stine Bramsen, its everything you hoped it would be and more, partly sung in Danish with some sugar sweet pop vocals from Stine that wouldnt be out of place at the end of some 80s movie. Lastly and the most metal of my highlights is "Becoming", this one is more Metallica until the classic Volbeat style chorus kicks in, I love how they can just mix it up though 8.03/10

RED RUM CLUB - How To Steal The World
Release Date: November 12, 2021Once again melding relatable words of life, love and late nights to the hip-shaking grooves that have ignited numerous festival stages, irrepressible indie-soul-funk six-piece Red Rum Club return with their head-bopping third album, "How To Steal The World". Unaccustomed to the new ‘wait and see’ conditions of modern living, Red Rum Club bottled their impatience, wrapped up their worries and gathered their thoughts together in cathartic writing and recording sessions for album number three. Thanks to their record label for the bio because they still don't have a Wikipedia page! 1. Drown 9.5 2. Love Me Like You Wanna Be Loved 8 3. Vibrate 9 4. Summer Of Another Lover 8 5. Nightcalling 9 6. Eighteen 7 7. How To Steal The World 7.5 8. Sweet Degrees 7 9. Come Back, Anna Marie! 8 10. Disappear 8 11. Monaco 7.5 12. Beautiful Mind 7.5SummaryOne thing you can guarantee with Red Rum Club is fun music with world, funk and mariachi influences, I have loved everything they have released and "How To Steal The World" is no different. You wouldn't think this album was written and recorded during lockdown because their sound is so infectious and highly danceable, "How To Steal The World" is a lot less Tarantino-esq sounding than their first two albums, at times their debut album conjured up images of westerns and whilst there are still elements of that hear there are other influences too such as Merseybeat and the disco-tinged "Nightcalling". The blend of funk, indie, mariachi and Merseybeat is just a fun, unique and enjoyable mix so another thumbs up from me 8.00/10

That completes my look at indie/rock albums released in 2021, hope everyone enjoyed the ride, I will now move over to my 2022 thread and try and sort out the backlog there, I haven't listened to a single album from 2022 yet! This is why I enjoy doing this as it gives me the perfect platform to listen to 60/70 extra albums a year and you never know when you might find that gem
