Gigolo Aunts - Flippin' OutAnd then it happens again, well not quite. This US power pop band had been in relative obscurity until the single from this album became a huge radio hit. Maybe I will check out their indie albums one day but this is all about one song "Where I Find My Heaven", One of my songs of 1993 which I charted twice as it was a UK hit in 1995 thanks to its inclusion in 'Dumb And Dumber' and as the theme to British sitcom 'Game On'. You can't really get more 90s. And that was what that song was it was the Transatlantic meeting of US power pop and Brit Pop. Now this isn't quite a one song album the other big single "Mrs. Washington" is great as well. But in general most of it is nowhere close to the quality of those songs. Nothing bad but a bit meh. This time though it doesn't translate into album sales, it failed to chart in US and UK. 3.5/5

Edwyn Collins - Gorgeous GeorgeCan one song be so good that it raises the whole album, usually no. If 'A Girl Like You' was not on this album, this would not be in the top 100. It is so damn special compared to everything else. This is a decent Edwyn album, a bit slow but its fine but nothing you would rave about, apart from that song!! I try to avoid charting albums of one song but sorry it cannot be avoided, it raises this from a 3 to a 3.5 all on its own. It did the same commercially as it made to the top 10 in the Uk reaching #8, his biggest hit album in his whole career. 3.5/5

Liz Phair - Whip-SmartHer second album makes the top 100 when her debut just missed. Is this record better?? Nah probbaly not. Liz PHair passed me by at the time and I gave her attention in the late 00s when I found out about her and that she was big in the US and a kinda proto-Alanis. On singles she is great but I am just not loving her albums, disappointed again. I get why I shoudl like her but its just falls flat for me and I think I actually prefer her debut, overlong as it was, it just had better songs. This reached #27 in the US and sold half a miillion copies. 3.5/5

Shampoo - We Are ShampooThis was a very hard album to judge, the debut album from the Brit pop / punk duo. The singles are pretty brilliant, although I can only take 'Trouble' in small doses but 'Delicious' having found recent attention from the Miley Cyrus covering perfume ad, is a bit of a lost gem. It is maybe a little long but it is underappraeciated on RYM, this is better than a 2.92. The record only reached #45 in the UK, again it deserved better, should have been top 10. 3.5/5 but a higher one

Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart - Take Me to GodNot really paid much attention to Jah Wobbles solo stuff and the previous Invaders Of The Heart record 'Rising Above Bedlam' missed the cut in 1991, I feel it was the practice run for this one as his 3rd album nails it. Jah Wobble;s voice is probbaly the worst thing about it but the collabs and production choices are really intersting and in some cases excellent such as the hit 'Becoming More Like God'. This is also by far his most successful album raeching #13 in the UK. 3.5/5

The High Llamas - Gideon Gaye
Only the second new band on the list so far but even then we still haven't had a debut. This is the second album from the avant pop group. Now at the time I thought this wasn't like anything else, I was addicted to the radio hit "Checking in, Checking Out" but now I know different. This album is steeped in 60s and 70s music. You can hear Beach Boys, Neil Young, Crosby Stills & Nash, Steely Dan etc. It is very very dreamy and super chill. Bit of a cult classic it only reached #94 in the UK. 3.5/5

Kylie Minogue - Kylie MinogueYou would never tell from the album cover but we are in peak Kylie here, Sex Kylie meets Indie Kylie. This was her fifth album and the first two singles were awesome, the gorgeous 'Confide in Me' and my favourite Kylie song "Put Yourself in My Place". No that has nothing to do with the Barbarella stripping video, nope not at all There are a few duffers that just stop this being a bit higher up the list. The record reached #4 in the UK. 3.5/5

Orbital - Snivilisation
The third album from the British electronic duo, Not my favourite in their catalogue, it is quite laidback but has some classics on here as well. The record reached #4 in the UK. 3.5/5

Roachford - Permanent Shade of BlueThe third album from the British Pop/rock band and as always I find i enjoy it way more than expected. Andrew Roachford is just so good, his stuff is just so likeable. Only one big song "Only to Be with You" but it doesn't matter, I like pretty much all of this. The record reached #25 in the UK. 3.5/5

The Beautiful South - MiaowThe fourth album from the band and I feel the songs from this record were a big contributor to the success of their Best Of album 'Carry On Up The Charts'. For me Jacqui Abbott era is the best era. The record is a bit top-heavy though, hence the lower placing. This record reached #6 in the UK. 3.5/5

Rolling Stones - Voodoo Lounge
This is a pretty decent 90s record from the rock veterans. I have enjoyed this more than most of the ones I played but then I always quite liked the lead single 'Love Is Strong'. Think you would have to rate this as one of their best more modern albums, eventhough this is 30 years old!! It reached #1 in the UK and #2 in the US and it had sold 6 million worldwide. 3.5/5

Terrorvision - How to Make Friends and Influence PeopleThis is the second album from the UK rock band and their big breakthrough. They have built up a decent fanbase and 5 top 30s of this record. That makes this a very fun album but is it particular great, not really, it's enjoyable. A fun band and probably a great record to hear live. The record reached #18 in the UK. 3.5/5

The Church - Sometime AnywhereIt is insane how long this band have been releasing music for an act that I considered a one radio hit wonder, they have a record in 2024 which is good but not quite as good as this one. This is their ninth album and it is another solid college rock record, nothing super memorable but there is an air of 'Starfish' about this record which we haven't had for the last couple of records. At this point though they are back to me am Australian only thing, this album reached #27 there. 3.5/5
