Have they been listening to The Night Game?
Really like this on first listen!

I like the song. I just can't get over how lame Coldplay are as a band.
It always looks like they've ran every aesthetic decision past a panel of 100 kids to find out what's hip and end up looking like that one 45 year old uncle who thinks he is still 18
Sound wise they just go for whatever is flavour of the month and this retro 80s sound is their best they have sounded since they decided to be an indie rock band for a few year

To be honest I'd rather a band like Coldplay (who've never been THAT indie on the indie spectrum) experiment with different sounds and adapt their style as opposed to reproducing Parachutes over and over again.

I like it, I kinda prefer them doing this poppier Mylo Xyloto type stuff. I probably would have used it in a Haven Factor round.

Nothing wrong with experimenting with different sounds, they just follow the wave about 3 years too late and add their super lame stink all over it. The sound they experiment with is never against the grain, it always feels like a cynical attempt to stay relevant to me.
Your right they aren't an indie band but they made an indie album when indie was trendy, a pop album when indie had faded, a really mainstream dancy album when that was trendy and now an 80s inspired album now thats in vogue.
Why not make this record 10 year ago when it wasn't so populor or make an R&B record if they feel inspired to explore a new sound, they are such a lame sell out band that rip off whatever is populor at the time, they've done it 3 or 4 times now so it can't be a coincidence.

The songs good though but I don't like the band Fair enough but at least they aren’t Maroon 5. One great album, then bandwagon jumping ever since and I can’t remember the last decent song they did maybe ‘Move Like Jagger’

I mean being slightly less annoying than Maroon 5 isn't great. They are in the same ballpark, if you had to pick another Maroon 5 type sell out band it would be Coldplay then maybe Imagine Dragons

If you strip away everything else and just play their tunes on the piano, then songs like 'Yellow' and 'In My Place' have got brilliant melodies, which is what attracts me most to a song.
As far as this new one goes, I'm not sure yet. But most of their songs are growers so this one could be too.

No I think there's a common trend with all 3 bands in that regard, were Coldplay ever really indie? A bunch of public school boys who have never touched the genre again after it lost its popularity. They have never properly experimented for me, they always release a rip off of whatever is trendy, they have done consistently for 20 years, I just thank God they never came out with a grime record!
Anyway I can complain about Coldplay being a pound shop Maroon 5 all day, atleast they picked a better trend to be the 976th band to follow this time. Neon pink paint and tracksuits though, the nu rave vibes are so offputting

It’s Night Game meets Walk The Moon, how can I not…

After disappearing for three years they came back with the major return to form Everyday Life album which was their All You Can Leave Behind as it harked back to their classic Coldplay template that made them a great success in the first place on their first four (especially first two albums).
So hearing this this morning, and having listened to it now for the 4th time ... I can't tell you how much of a disappointment this is.
Sure it is catchy, and has a bit of an earworm, but working with Max Martin makes it impossible to not be like that. This is much more like their nadir Mylo_Xyloto era. Going pop does not suit their strengths. They should leave that to Maroon 5 and their lowest common denominator chasing a hit making genre shapeshifting.
Fingers crossed this is the album's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall", and the next single is its "Paradise".

Think it falls somewhere between those songs, it is much better than the former.

It’s strange - for me it gets worse the more I hear it. It starts off with “yay, new Coldplay” and by fourth listen it absolutely bores me to tears. A bit like the new OneRepublic.
