What a return after their not that great last album. Muse have thrown everything at this. So many modern influences Imagine Dragons and Bring Me The Horizon but it also unmistakably Muse.

Thought Contagion and Pressure are two of my fave Muse singles. Like the guitar on this, but just sounds a bit disjointed...

I wasn't wowed by the last album. This is better but needs more listens to fully appreciate I think.

My first thought was it sounds like Royal Blood covering Imagine Dragons.

Album is out today - haven't played it yet but did watch this video for 'Euphoria'. A classic Muse pop-rock banger - perhaps a little too close to their classic material as I did want to sing 'our time is running out' at the end of the bridge

Just played it in full. It is brilliant - it gets you first time. For some fans, it might be a bit too Darkness / Night At The Opera in places, but for me it is their best since Black Holes And Revelations.

The Queen backing vocals are annoying...

Panic! have been doing a bit of Queen revival lately as well; must be a new trend. Honestly Muse's best album for me is Origin Of Symmetry but Black Holes and Revelations was the last one that I really listened to much so I'm looking forward to this after Shireblogger's review!

My problem is I never used to be a lyrics person but somehow something snapped in February that when I listen to music now its the first thing I hear, I hate it, I cant seem to get back to how I was for pretty much my entire life. I know its an anxiety thing but I did hope it was temporary! Hence I find this album very difficult, cant I just enjoy the guitars, production and his vocals again, no I just hear doom and gloom!!! The first Muse album I havent bought

See I'm the complete opposite with lyrics, the more depressing the better, it makes the song more relatable, more real, deep and meaningful. Also they usually give me a sense of "I'm not alone feeling or thinking this". Almost comforting
Although lyrics can put me off if they are too shallow and the songwriter needs to check their privilege, usually songs by 20 year old girls complaining about boys, you know the superficial self inflicted kind of complaining, its quite common and super over done, it can be good if done well but it can easily stray into irrational and whiney

Lyrics have never been that important to me and I am quite good at tuning them out - one of my least favourite things is if I've already got attached to a song and then suddenly start hearing the lyrics and notice they're super cringe Good lyrics are like sprinkles on a cake for me - they won't make or break a song, but they can give it a bit of a boost. Bad lyrics, if I notice them, can ruin a song depending on how awful they are. I've been listening to a lot of metal, post-metal and post-hardcore lately and find it's making me more appreciative of instrumentation, especially drumming. It's hard to focus on the lyrics when they are being growled, screamed, in a foreign language or all three at once.

The Queen backing vocals are annoying... Ha, I've just heard 'Liberation' and see what you mean Though - returning to the subject of lyrics - 'you stole the airwaves, but the air belongs to us' is a nice line.

Really enjoying this album, particularly Ghosts and Halloween. I hope we get a proper tour because I’d love to see them again.
