Welcome to Frank Edwin's 2/6/2022 Saladđ„Bar 101 weekly inclusive feast where we invite you to Chow Down on a fresh variety of tasty musical artist cuisine. Romaine Calm - Turnip the Beet - Find Inner Peas.
This weekâs chart and playlist is dedicated to Joshua Bluegreen-Cripps a member of our musical family that we sadly lost this week. It was through his posts in the Facebook LGBTQ Music & Musicians group that I "discovered" his trumpet finesse, vivacious personality, enthusiasm, and love for the community. I will be forever thankful.
Friends shared, âHe was a Giant in our community. He was always thinking of ways to bring people together with music. He loved everyone and celebrated everyone.â
My heart goes out to his family, friends, and to partner and fellow musician Kyle Craft who shared a beautiful bond with Joshua. His music and influence will live on in hearts and lives around the world.
To celebrate Joshuaâs life at the Saladđ„Bar 101 we bring you his luscious trumpet rendition of âOver The Rainbowâ to savour and cherish.
The Top 100 has just a small sampling of the artists worldwide that have music we enjoy sharing. We literally can't keep up with the number of new songs released weekly and new to us artists we are discovering on a daily basis from a plethora of sources.
There are currently over 150 songs waiting to debut on the chart. To facilitate the opportunity of having more songs join the buffet we are delighted to give 6 songs each week the special designation of #1 Saladđ„Song.
#1 Saladđ„Song: Keye Katcher - New York Blue Eyes
âKeye Katcher is the eye catcher for the ear.â
Groovy queer, heavenly colorful and soulfully deep: Musically multifaceted and with an enormous vocal variance, Keye Katcher's catchy tune tracks are witty statements for positive vibes with depth. "Weâre all one" proves not only the versatility and talent of the Berlin musician, but above all his commitment and statement for the community and society. (cw / pm)
It is a pleasure to present Keye Katcher with his first Saladđ„Bowl in honour of âNew York Blue Eyesâ being given the designation of a #1 Saladđ„Song in its 15th week on the chart.

www.keyekatcher.com#1 Saladđ„Song: Dan Slater & Alan Gendreau - Pieces (Andrei Stan Radio Mix)
Dan Slater is an Australian DJ and Producer based in the United States. Alan Scott Gendreau is an American former college football placekicker who was openly gay to his teammates.
The Orlando, Florida, USA., native knew he was gay at a very young age. He came out to friends and family at 16, started dating boys in high school and had on-again, off-again relationships with men through college.
"When you know, you know," he said with a smile.
Gendreau has also long been a devout Christian, raised in a deeply religious household. Itâs a tough mix, being gay and Christian. When he came out to his parents in high school, they put him in church-based counseling. That lasted four sessions.
His sexual orientation collided with his hometown church during the winter break of his freshman year in college. Back home in Orlando for three weeks, Gendreau brought his then-boyfriend to a church gathering with friends from high school.
When parents of other youth got wind that the mystery guest was his boyfriend and Gendreau was gay, they demanded the church leadership remove him from the their worship team. They complied.
"It was like my family telling me I wasnât allowed to come home."
To this day, Gendreau sleeps with a Bible next to his bed. When he showed it to me in his Washington, D.C. apartment, the first place he turned was the glossary.
"I used to flip to the back to see if the Bible defined homosexuality," he said. His colorful edition from sixth grade has no such entry. In its place are scribbles from Gendreauâs past, including thoughts about being gay and a note about a boyfriend from high school. He still regularly attends Sunday church services. For 11 weeks now Queer & trans songmaker / boy king Anjimile has been gracing the buffet with "1978 (Reunion)" feat. Lomelda. Lomelda is Hannah Readâs musical project. The string sections for Reunion were written and recorded by composer Daniel Hart. We are delighted to find their delish collaboration at the top of the buffet in its 11th week on the chart giving it the distinction of #1 Saladđ„Song.
âAfter wowing audiences last year (2020) with his evocative, tender LP Giver Taker, Anjimile gives the album new life with Reunion. The EP includes expanded orchestral versions of the songs on the album, lovingly crafted alongside a number of Anjimile's acclaimed musician peers. It's a testament to the community Anjimile is building around himself, and the latest release from a prolific songwriterâŠ
"1978 (Reunion)" ft. Lomelda. A poignant tribute to a grandmother that Anjimile never knew, "1978 (Reunion)" is stripped back to angelic harmonies, expressive string sections, and Lomelda's distinctive croon. "In the night it is a miracle to be held by you" they sing, a testament to the presence of someone lost who still lives on and even comes alive through the art and love of their descendents.â by Sarah Jae Leiber for Broadway World.

lomelda.bandcamp.com/#1 Saladđ„Song: Tonality - No, Child. No Child by Alex Wurman
LA-based choral ensemble Tonality has partnered with deaf and LGBTQ+ performers, filmmakers and ASL interpreters to produce a music video for âNo, Child. No Child.â â a story of a young LGBTQ+ person finding acceptance and self-love. This is not simply a closed caption video. Deaf artists actually perform the music in ASL.
This video is a continuation of award-winning Tonalityâs core mission to make a tangible difference within the community by partnering with organizations to bring diverse voices and perspectives about issues rarely presented in choral music to a larger audience. Composed by composer Alex Wurman, the song features on Tonalityâs new album, America Will Be.
âRepresentation is so important to our mission and stories of the LGBTQ community finding acceptance and self-love arenât limited to hearing community,â says Tonality Founder and Artistic Director, Alexander Lloyd Blake. âThis composition by Alex Wurman sets music to a powerful narration of an individual who is learning to accept themselves in their LGBTQ identity and we are honored to work with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ deaf performers and ASL interpreters to share a message of inclusion in a broader and more beautiful way and help inspire communication and foster empathy toward each other.â
âNo, Child. No Child.â features BIPOC and LGBTQ+ deaf artists and ASL interpreters of color including Andrea âDreâ Hollingsworth known for her comedy work, along with her hearing daughters 11-year old twins Aimee and Ashlee Hollingsworth, Mickey Mak, and co-director Justin Jackerson.
Mickey Mak, a gay and non-binary person of color (She/They/Them/Theirs) says:
âI was invited by one of my former interpreters to be in Tonalityâs ASL music video. It was the first time Iâd ever filmed a music video so it was exciting to meet and work with other deaf artists and directors to create a beautiful and accessible video. It took me about four days to learn half the lyrics, but I was determined to do it because the song, âNo, Child. No, Childâ resonates with me on a personal level. I grew up in religious family and my parents didnât accept I was gay and non-binary and I felt isolated and lonely for many years. I hope this video will help LGBTQ+ young people who are struggling to find acceptance and love as well as increasing awareness of ASL and deaf culture.â By Queer Forty Staff
It is a joy to present Tonality with our Saladđ„Bowl in honour of âNo, Child. No Childâ being given the designation of a #1 Saladđ„Song in its 12th week on the chart.

âI hope that through my music people can feel a sense of comfort and joy and love and it can just give them a feeling in their heart. Thatâs what musicâs all about. Thatâs my hope.â
With the release of her self-titled EP, Shawnee Kish has delivered six songs with feeling, power, pop, and her lifeâs experience including as a two-spirit Indigenous person.
If you follow her on social media you know that she is an advocate for youth in the Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ communities, as well as for the queer and Indigenous communities at large.
âSo itâs always been my language, especially after really honestly struggling with things like depression and suicidal thoughts as a young person and not knowing my place in the world as a two-spirit person or an Indigenous person and not feeling valued or honoured in that sense, and who I am and what runs through my blood. Iâve had to overcome that. So taking back my culture and finding ways to be part of my culture and honour that part of me was a struggle in my teenage years, and going to pow wows and taking part in that and realizing and just honouring that part of me. So Iâve been through that. And then what coincides with that is my music and my art and my passion and my gift. We believe as Indigenous people that weâve all been given a gift and itâs our reason, our purpose is to use that. And I believe that we use our gifts to heal and we use it to empower each other and show up for each other so I do that, and thatâs what motivates me to talk.â
âIâm clumsy, but I used to be real clumsy because I wasnât in my own skin. I wasnât living in my own skin. And so I wore that, I was uncomfortable with so many things about myself and I came to this realization that this is all I got and I have to be who I am, so Iâm gonna do that. And if itâs not for me itâs gonna be for the next kid who is struggling. And I know what that struggle is like and I donât want them to go through that. So be you. And I show up for that reason and I use my platform and anything that I accomplish for that purpose and reason and that just leads me on a road that I never stray from and I feel confident and powerful in that.â Text and interview by Joshua Murray for thereviewsarein.com

www.ShawneeKish.com/#1 Saladđ„Song: Dhorin Fireheart · Tropical Viking
For 11 weeks now we have been enjoying a Viking Rave at the Saladđ„Bar 101 as Sweden's áŠáșáá±áŒáą á©áŒá±ááșááŁá±á brought his âTropical Vikingâ for us to groove to at the buffet.
Thor, Odin, Freyr... these and many more are figures in Dhorin Fireheartâs songs which touch upon the deeply personal and the ancient Scandinavian stories while weaving sounds ready for the club. âš According to his own statement he wants to deconstruct Scandinavian masculinity and make it more queer and colourful with his artistry, everyone is a Viking in his worldview, everyone is welcome.
âDhorin Fireheart is my viking alter ego where I can express myself through music for the dance floor. It's a bit like "drag" even though I become a Viking instead of the drag queen! I use a lot of metaphors and inspiration from both my real life and Viking stories as well as mythology. It is also a very queer interpretation of Vikings. Many people who use Viking themes and images express a kind of "ultimate" masculinity that can seem quite narrow-minded. I want to change that by introducing a queer page that is actually not far from reality when it comes to Vikings.
- I get braver when I get to be a different character, and as my musical ego I live out my own fantasies and stories⊠I want to be a role model for many other queer artists who may not dare to release music or express themselves, and at the same time be part of the community that supports each other."
It is a delight to present áŠáșáá±áŒáą á©áŒá±ááșááŁá±á with his first Saladđ„Bowl in honour of âTropical Vikingâ being given the designation of a #1 Saladđ„Song.
