Welcome to Frank Edwin's 4/25/2022 Salad🥗Bar 101 weekly inclusive feast where we invite you to Chow Down on a fresh variety of tasty musical artist cuisine. Romaine Calm - Turnip the Beet - Find Inner Peas.
The 101 has just a small sampling of the artists worldwide that have music we enjoy sharing. We literally can't keep up with the number of new songs released weekly and new to us artists we are discovering on a daily basis from a plethora of sources.
There are currently over 150 songs waiting to debut on the chart. To facilitate the opportunity of having more songs join the buffet we are delighted to give 6 songs each week the special designation of #1 Salad🥗Song.
#1 Salad🥗Song: Tret Fure - Peanut Butter Toast
A prolific artist in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Tret Fure has released 17 albums and CDs over the course of her 51 year career. In addition to being a gifted songwriter, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists, including her own work.
In addition to touring and recording, Tret teaches guitar and songwriting individually and in workshop settings. She paints pet portraits on commission and, an accomplished cook, Fure has also published a cookbook, "Tret's Kitchen", featuring her own recipes. Along with bridging the marketing, production, music and art worlds, Tret served for 6 years as President of Local 1000, The Traveling Musicians Association--a union geared toward helping traveling musicians find security and longevity.
It is a pleasure to present Tret with her first Salad🥗Bowl as “Peanut Butter Toast” from one of her “Live From Home” concerts is given the special designation as a #1 Salad🥗Song in its 11th week on the chart.

#1 Salad🥗Song: Janis Ian - Better Times Will Come
We are delighted to give Janis Ian her 2nd Salad🥗Bowl in honour of “Better Times Will Come” becoming a #1 Salad🥗Song in its 9th week on the chart. Janis shares the story of how this song came together and what is has become.
“On April 8, 2020, the day after John Prine died, I was doing laundry when a chorus began running around in my head. Two hours later, I sang the new song into my old phone (dog barking in the background), and put it on line. My colleagues and I had just lost all our 2020 shows due to the pandemic.
Knowing how many of us would suffer financially, I suggested a few of them make “home-grown” versions of my new song. I’d put them on line, with leads to social media, and try to create new fans and sell a bit of merchandise for everyone.
First was John Gorka: 70,000 hits later, it clearly helped raise awareness of his work. Then a quarantined parent emailed that coloring books were sold out, so Sue Coccia and Sandra Boynton helped me begin “coloring pages”. Donna Russo, a dancer friend in a wheelchair, sent me a video; Frank Turner and Mary Black signed on, and now there are versions from punk to American Sign Language to Japanese.
It’s an illustration of the many ways one song can be used, and a reminder that you don’t have to be a professional to make art. Every version here was done from lockdown and quarantine, with birds, dogs, children in the background. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we enjoy it, give voice to it, and remember that someday, better times will come. Thanks, and stay safe.”

youtu.be/K4X7kJ5rM8g#1 Salad🥗Song: Trixie Mattel - This Town feat. @shakey Graves
Hometowns are a frequent recurring theme in country music, sometimes acting as a comforting, familiar presence or shelter from more worldly sources of anxiety. The topic gets most interesting when artists strain against those borders, whether due to painful memories (Sam Hunt’s “Break Up in a Small Town”) or the fear of succumbing to inertia (Kacey Musgraves’ biting “Merry Go Round”).
Drag superstar Trixie Mattel takes a similar tack on “This Town,” ... featuring Shakey Graves. With its fingerstyle guitar parts recalling Musgraves’ breakout song as well as John Prine’s work, the vibe here is purely bittersweet. Mattel, who isn’t a flashy vocalist but has a nice warm timbre, initially looks fondly back on how she “used to drive about 70 late at night” and the police wouldn’t bother to stop her.
There’s also a dark side to this idyllic setting, where abuse is happening as a matter of routine and most people aren’t afforded the choice of leaving. “You either work the land or the fiberglass plant in town/You maybe got out or you never did settle down,” Mattel sings. Sometimes for queer kids, though, getting out of that environment is a matter of life or death.
Mattel was one who did get out, obviously, and “This Town” feels a little like that strange sensation of returning to one’s hometown after years of being away. The memories are harder to bring into focus, and one’s old self may look like a complete stranger. Texas singer-songwriter Graves alludes to this in the third and final verse. “You changed your name and you can’t go home/Never been so close so far away,” he sings. “It feels like/Ooo,” the two harmonize in the chorus, as if trying to articulate a thought that’s just out of reach. Fittingly, the video features old footage of young, pre-fame Mattel (then known only as Brian Firkus) playing guitar along with landscape shots of her Wausaukee, Wisconsin, hometown.
In the last decade and change, the idea of hometown has often been co-opted for nostalgic purposes by bland white mainstream country dudes who haven’t bothered to fully investigate any of their subject’s complexity. Not so for Mattel’s latest, which is as searing and unsentimental an account as you’re likely to find. by Jon Freeman for Rolling Stone

It’s a delight introducing you to the artistes and their luscious chefs-d'œuvre at pinnacle of the Salad🥗Bar 101. We enjoy finding tasty dishes from a wide variety of sources and are excited to present Paweł Zadrożniak with our Salad🥗Bowl as his version of the classic Elton John “I'm Still Standing” played on the FLOPPOTRON becomes a #1 Salad🥗Song in its 6th week on the chart.
The Floppotron is a musical instrument created by Polish engineer Paweł Zadrożniak. It is made of a synchronized array of obsolete computer hardware programmed to play tunes.
Any device with an electric motor is able to generate a sound. Scanners and floppy drives use stepper motors to move the head with sensors which scan an image or perform read/write operations on a magnetic disk. The sound generated by a motor depends on its driving speed: the higher the frequency, the greater the pitch. Hard disks use a magnet and a coil to position the head. When voltage is supplied for long enough, the head speeds up and hits the mechanical stop making the "drum hit” sound.
The Floppotron translates MIDI music files into a series of discrete commands telling the devices when to buzz, click, and remain silent.

The 101: Book Of Love - Boy
The 101 Flashback at the Salad🥗Bar is our niche in time dedicated to the memory of Joshua Bluegreen-Cripps who loved everyone, celebrated everyone, and was always thinking of ways to bring people together with music. The goal of the Salad🥗Bar is also to bring a diversity of people together with music and each week the BuffetMobile will take us to The 101 where artists and songs that have special meaning or memories for Salad🥗Bar curator Frank Edwin will be found and shared.
This week the BuffetMobile takes us to 1985 for “Boy” the debut single from Book Of Love.
