Do you like 1960s (or maybe even 1950s) music ?
Which singers/groups are your favourites ?
How high you will rate 60s against the other retro decades (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s) ?

Not going to comment on this much as we are having Time machine 60s very soon so not really a time to be giving away our favourites but I will say I much prefer music from the late 60s almost infinitely more. 50s music fine in a period Tv show or something but wouldn't choose to listen to it.
And yes I would rate it my least favourite although I probably prefer 1966-1969 over 1972-1975

It's difficult to know how you judge a year against another - by how far down in your chart of the year?
I found with all my retro chart years that the at the top of the chart any year can match pretty much any other, but the difference is when you get lower down. When I compare the songs peaking at #7 in my chart in one year against another, for example, 1978-1981 are far stronger than 1969-1976.
The strongest year of the 1960s for me was 1968. I didn't know that until I'd done the whole decade in retro charts.
1956 was rather terrible in part, but 1957 picked up. Strangely I found 1956 had several #1s in my chart by British artists and so did 1959, but 1957 and 1958 only had one each (and in 1958 that was Lord Rockingham's XI!)
Still I could make a playlist of the best of 1956-59 and it would be pretty good. Consider that at the end of 1957 I had "Reet Petite", "Great Balls Of Fire", "Jingle Bell Rock", "Oh Boy" and "At The Hop" all in the top end of the chart. The first 4 of those all reached NM #1, the last one missed out.

The 60s was a fantastic decade for music, and I could be here all day listing classic music from that period.
There was a lot of great music released in the 50s as well - especially in the latter half of the decade.

Do you like 1960s (or maybe even 1950s) music ?Of course, even in 1960s we had (as in any other decade) good non-English schlager songs, but it's my least favourite retro decade if we talk about mainstream chart music. The first years of decade were better, because traditional pop era was over only somewhere in 1963. After it the majority of hits belongs to British Invasion and Motown R&B/soul. Both trends are far from my preferences in music. Which singers/groups are your favourites ?1st place - Petula ClarkPetula recorded a lot of good music on some different European languages during 1960s decade, just watch the profile on 45cat. www.45cat.com/artist/petula-clark/ukIt's like Ivana Raymonda Van Der Veen of the vintage music era. She could have the most # 1 songs in the history of my retrospective chart, if "Gražios Dainos" project was launched from 60s. 2nd place - Kathy Kirby

Loads of great music, and I grew up on a lot of it as my dad still played it, and gave me tapes of best ofs of some of the artists from the 50s. As above, not going to mention certain artists or songs, as Time Machine around the corner. See what songs are played in that game and you will see what we like.

I can name more 50s than 60s that I like - but until Time Machine is over not naming.

The 50s I struggle with a bit in general, but I adore 60s music. The Byrds, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Motown, all the obvious stuff really, but in second half of the 60s especially there was a much stronger correlation with quality and chart success than there has been at any point in my life.
There's some less obvious stuff I like too - Bob Dylan is my all time favourite artist, he's had a bigger influence on my politics, my opinions and my general outlook on life than most of the people I've actually met, and much of his best stuff was from the 60s. I also completely love The Velvet Underground & Nico album, which is from 1967.

How I forgot about Heidi Bruhl ? This picture was on my avatar some years ago. She was German popular singer, but some singles were released in UK too.

Kinky Boots will be in my 1990 retro playlist soon, I haven't rolled it yet but it may be in my next one.
