This starts on Friday in Eugene, Oregon. Hopefully better than the last Championships in Doha, which were poorly attended. These Championships were originally supposed to take place last year but were moved due to the delayed Olympics. It means we're in the second of an unprecedented five-year stint of having a global athletics championship every year. The next World Championships haven't been moved so they will take place next year in Budapest, followed by the Paris Olympics in 2024 and then the 2025 World Championships (venue TBD but Lord Coe has said he'd like them to be in Kenya).
GB had a solid Championships in 2019, winning 2 gold medals (Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson) and 3 silvers (Asher-Smith in the 100m and both sprint relays). Asher-Smith and KJT were both injured at last year's Tokyo Olympics, were GB failed to win an athletics gold, taking home 2 silvers (Keely Hodgkinson and Laura Muir) and 3 bronze medals (Josh Kerr, Holly Bradshaw and the women's sprint relay - the men originally won silver but were stripped of their medals due to CJ Ujah's failed doping test).
GB's best medal chances this year appear to lie with the both the men's and women's middle distance events, as well as Eilish McColgan, who has been in sensational form this year, and the relays.
