They had 2 chart battles in 1998. In the first battle the Manics won by a small margin In the second battle, when the albums came out, the Manics won by a landslide.
We had another such double-battle later with B*witched and the Beautiful South. B*witched won the singles battle. In the album battle the Beautiful South got revenge with such a massive lead that B*witched actually only entered at #3.

I think one is a legendary and poignant political statement and a wonderful piece of music that is still enjoyed by tens of thousands of people in 2022 when they play it live, the other is about as deep as a puddle, only one winner here

A tragedy for Steps to sell 140k and only be #2.
As Daz says there can only be one winner and that is Steps - a slice of pure magical pop, therre's nothing wrong with that!

A tragedy for Steps to sell 140k and only be #2. I see what you did there I think the Manics had better songs on both this album and others that could have been #1 instead, as much as I like IYTT, whereas the Steps one is probably the best they ever did the first time round, and so I went for that.

I'm sorry but I prefer the Steps song. I think it's the best thing they've ever done - whereas that probably wouldn't be in my top ten Manic Street Preachers songs.

More pop I'd say.

I could probably name every single up until 2010 off the top of my head after that it would be a struggle

It doesn't surprise me this is divided, and I do quite like "One For Sorrow". "If You Tolerate This.." was played on Radio X this morning.

Don't get me wrong "One For Sorrow" is a catchy pop song by Mark Topham, Karl Twigg, Lance Ellington, Pete Waterman, Les Sharma, Chris McDonnell, Barry Upton, Sean Lyons and Chris Haigh who wrote, produced and played all the instruments on this song but it is to music what Findus Crispy Pancakes are to gourmet food and whilst I'm partial to mass produced junk food I couldn't in good faith ever name it as the "best food" no matter how many endorphin activating additives are added by mystery men behind the scenes to make it tasty

What happens if it's a tie anyway?

But then the genius 'Fairytale of New York' was beaten by a cover version.

What happens if it's a tie anyway? The artists featured are given machine guns and grenades, and it's a battle to the death H has got a sick note though so he's exempt.

What happens if it's a tie anyway? I want to believe that we will avoid it. In three rounds we had 15, 15 and 17 votes. Now it's tie after 14 votes. Some members can decide the fate of this duel.
