It was coincidently the first chart I taped of the radio basically where it all really began for me. They both have their place but really ‘Vienna’ is the better song but since when did that mean anything chart wise.

I was recently reminded that 'Shaddap Your Face' existed when it was played on the radio in Sri Lanka.
This experience has not altered my vote here.

In my chart Vienna got 1 week at #1, Woman stalled at #7, Shaddap You Face at #25.
Vienna replaced "Ant Music" by Adam & The Ants to get to NM #1. After one week on top it was replaced by "Romeo & Juliet" by Dire Straits.

In world charts :
Joe Dolce # 1 in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland # 2 in Finland # 4 in Netherlands # 5 in Sweden, Denmark
Ultravox # 1 in Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium # 2 in United Kingdom, New Zealand # 7 in Sweden # 8 in Austria # 11 in Australia # 14 in Germany
Only in Netherlands "Vienna" was peaked on the higher position.

how did Shaddap You Face do in Italy? As he said "you know I had a big-a-hit in Italy with this shaddap-you-face.."
Notable though that Vienna got to #8 in Austria.
By the way, whilst they are extremely twee, I do somewhat get the meaning of the lyrics of Shaddap You Face, whereas in Vienna I don't know exactly what he's singing about, it sounds like random phrases stuck together.

Joe Dolce was number one in SA and top song of the year. Ultravox reached number 8.
Still prefer Ultravox.

If i was brutaly honest i would like to never hear either of them ever again.
One is an overkilled 80s music track forever played the other one of the worst novelty hits ever
Of course this means nothing to me

Joe gets my vote. Joe Dolce is probably my favourite novelty song of all time. I still find it funny today. Vienna was Number 1 in Scotland for 4 weeks if I remember correctly, but it wouldn't even be in my personal Top 5 Ultravox songs.

Let's move on Christmas week of 1987 year.
We have Pet Shop Boys "Always On My Mind" versus Pogues and Kirsty MacColl "Fairytale Of New York"

I cant vote in that as I like both of them. But being Christmas then maybe the Pogues should have got it?

The Pogues & Kirsty, without question.
Always on my mind is a pretty decent cover, but Fairytale of New York is one of the biggest masterpieces in music history.

Pet Shop Boys comfortably, The Pogues song has become very overplayed in recent years

The Pogues and Kirsty by a giant country mile. I can't stand 'Always On My Mind' in any version, and I also do not like PSB.

I really like them both but Pogues is a bit overplayed now and ‘Always On My Mind’ still sounds pretty fresh for such an old song now.

Voted for Pogues and Kirsty for two reasons. 1. I'm not a resident of Great Britain or Ireland, so "Fairytale" is low popular here (in my country "Last Christmas" is the most overplayed in festive time) and even grew up for me in some last years. 2. PSB version is good, but Elvis recorded the best cover of "Always On My Mind" (his version is not original too).
