I love the Haven World Cup format, setting player v player. Panda has come up with a great concept. I had an idea of having a similar competition but like a premier league version. So like the World Cup you pick any song you like (excluding songs used in World Cup's so far), and each player plays every other player once, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 for a defeat. So you know in advance the fixture list but you don't know the song your up against. At the end of the season (say 16 players so 15 matches) there is a champion, and relegation for the bottom player or players. Just an idea, does anyone else think this could work. I think a Haven Premier League would definitely work and the league format would be very interesting. Whether or not I would actually take part in a 15-week competition would depend on when it was scheduled. Having said that, I don't intend on taking part in Time Machine again this year so I'd potentially be more "up" for it.

For me a 15 week contest would be a bit too long, especially if there is to be a Haven World Cup as well. Perhaps, if there are 16 players, they could be split into two divisions of 8, which if run annually would allow for promotion/relegation? This would only take seven weeks, as opposed to 15.
Rankings in the Haven World Cup could be used, to determine which players start in the Premier League/Championship.
Just a suggestion ...

I had considered that, and I think it's a good option, I will see what others think. If there was a huge interest say 16 + two divisions would make sense. If 12 or less possibly only one. I thought about a preliminary round before the start to determine which division you would be placed. If it happens it will be late next year possibly Autumn, still a work in progress. Because the fixtures would be in the opening thread if anyone was going away, entries could be submitted early depending on how long you were away. Anyway I'm open to any suggestions to make it work.

I really like the idea of two leagues where you can get promoted or relegated!

I prefer long 15 weeks contest over two divisions.

If you go for the League format.
Then from an admin perspective, might it be easier for whoever is playing, to submit all their songs for each of the X number of rounds in advance?
As it would save asking for the song submissions round by round / week by week. Plus it would benefit anyone who is going to be on holiday/unavailable so they can play and get their votes in early for those particular weeks.

For Premier League format we don't need 15 consecutive weeks for 15 rounds. Football season starts in August and finish in May, so we can do the same.

I intend to start 1950s time machine pretty much as soon as Haven Factor Express ends so it can be complete by the end of the year. I'm going to make a few small changes to how it has run before, primarily: - You won't need to send all your songs up front, but can send them one round at a time. That helps us get started quicker, as you'll only have to find one song to start off, not 10. - It will run backwards, so I'll start with 1959 and end with 1950. That's also because I think it will be easier for most people to find songs from 1959 than from 1950. - For the earlier years, I will produce "helper" lists for the years 1950 to 1952. After that, you can use the Official Charts Company site to look up the UK charts and also UMDMusic is useful to find Billboard charts even for the earlier years. For example: www.umdmusic.com/default.asp?Lang=English&Chart=D&ChDate=19501220&ChMode=Nis the last week of 1950, and you might want to pick from among the many versions of "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" that was in the chart at the time, especially as we'll be close to Christmas when we get to do that year.

I will start a Halloweenvision thread this week too, see if there is enough interest and get the songs in so they can be voted on the last few weeks in October, results on or around Halloween

Probably worth getting a 2024 thread going now, especially if there's something planned for January. Unless we're continuing to use this thread?
2024 is looking a bit sparse at the mo.
