New single just landed today!
Taking a step back towards a brighter sound after Screen Violence. I really like this, it sounds like it could slot right into their first album.

Yes one of two new releases I have played already. Yes it’s quite pop but not too current sounding and agree with the sentiment, not sure what she is singing about but I can apply it to a few things. Solid track so far for me, not blown away or disappointed

This sounds like a soulless, carbon-copy of a discarded b-side from their messy third album sessions. I'd wager we'll get an interview from Lauren in a few years time reflecting back on the recording of this material, noting how creatively spent the band was.

Funny to hear a song without Lauren on, but just read the backstory to it, which is interesting. Shame she's going solo

I'm certain there'll be more CHVRCHES material and tours in the future - it's not like she's leaving, she's just making some solo music.
This is also not the first song we've had without Lauren; there were at least one or two on 'Every Open Eye' with Martin singing. Admittedly it's a very different voice!

This one is so bad, Lauren not signing isn't even the worst part, the music is boring, bland and a bit samey, the vocals don't work on any level, it just isn't very good

I actually quite like it! It is a lot simpler than much of their more recent material but makes sense as it's a song that didn't make the cut for album #1. I definitely prefer Lauren's vocals though, not gonna lie.

I'm glad I saw them a few year ago in Newcastle, great gig other than a weird lad that threatened us
It was so odd, about 85% the way through the gig a girl randomly came and stood right in front of my mate so he couldn't see, I found it funny because it always happens, my mate who must be 5'3, so I laugh and nudge them and point at the girl and say something like "Ha, knew you wouldn't get though a gig without someone standing in front of you", it was ridiculous, her hair was in his mouth, she was so close and there was no room to move, I was buzzed of course and laughing at his misfortune and this lad who was behind us that was stood alone after a girl left him there 20 minutes ago just went nuts, yelling at us to grow up and god knows what else it was loud, literally all we did was stand still for the entire gig, i thought he was going to punch us ha, Jesus Christ man its a CHVRCHES gig

Being 5'3" is my least favourite part of going to gigs! I need to get some platforms!

Another new/old one from The Bones Of What You Believe 10th anniversary edition. Musically it's OK; I preferred the other one. In this particular case I would argue that the worst thing about this one is the vocals bless him but I can't imagine how you could listen to this and not think it would be so much better with Lauren singing.

There is something about masculine voices and synthpop that doesn't mesh well anyway (even before you factor in accent, weak vocals, questionable singing, unfamiliarity of a new vocalist), I think you found the struggle with Editors EDM phase even though musically and vocally far superior than new CHVRCHES
A deeper male voice is as out of place on a synthpop song as metal core vocals on a bubble-gum manufactured pop song. It is why female vocals and feminine male vocals are so popular in synthpop, it sounds right, this sounds wrong. Honestly if this was my first time listening to or discovering CHVRCHES it would go in the trash pile below some stuff by unsigned artists with 146 plays, I hope to god they aren't releasing these to prepare us for an entire new album with him on vocals!

Yeah I just can't get on with Tom's voice on the newer material There are definitely cases of male synthpop vocals I love (Dave Gahan is the obvious one of course) but I agree, it is much harder to make it work. Lauren's voice has this incredibly clear and almost childlike quality which works so well with CHVRCHES' music. The good thing about these past two songs is they are old leftovers from the first album; I get the impression we're only hearing them at all because of the special edition so I'm hoping they're not indicative of their sound going forward. But if they are going to start releasing brand new music without Lauren it's going to be hard not to view that as a downgrade. The good news is Martin can definitely sing and it can still sound pretty great, this is probably my favourite he's done:
