66 Therapy? - Nurse
So that means these next two borderline albums get a push-up as well. This was their major label debut and I found them quite tricky at the time. They came from a genre that I was not really into in 1992 but I was won over completly on their next album and I did buy 'Teethgrinder'. I am now so much more into hardcore and Alt metal, maybe more now than any time since the early 00s so I was well up for this, also I have heard their new 2023 album as well before this. I didn't love all of it though, and I am sure it would be even better live. The record reached #38 in the UK. Another very low 4/5

Erotica is definitely a grower of an album, but I love it now. My favourite song is 'Bad girl,' that one is so underrated!
The Shakespear's Sister album is brilliant. 'My 16th apology' should have been a much bigger hit!

65 The 25th of May - Lenin & McCarthy
The debut album from the Rap/rock group from Liverpool and I need to quote a RYM poster "This album is a lost classic. In a world where EMF, Jesus Jones and Pop Will Eat Itself became Top 10 stars," 100%. And how hard is it to find this record now. I think the issue may have been teh lead single 'Solid State Logic' which was closer to Prodigy than Jesus Jones, but again so ahead of their time. I love it but then we got 'It's Alright' which is a great single and should have made them a top 40 band. And there is so much more like that, so underrated and really should have done as well as their peers. 4/5 again a low one.

64 The Primitives - Galore
They may not be as relevant as they were just a short time ago but The Primitives third album is still very good. It is crazy how fast things move in the 90s. You know totally what you are getting although they have moved into some different sounds most notably on the single "Earth Thing". Sadly this will be their last album as they break up shortly after its release. The album did not chart. 4/5

63 Ministry - ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ [Psalm 69]
The fifth album from the industrial metal band and it is their commercial breakthrough. Let me the hill billy metal song "Jesus Built My Hotrod" which maybe benefitted from a bit of novelty but then followed by "N.W.O.", which is arguably the best industrial song ever, yes I know Nine-Inch Nails would have something to say about that but it is a fire track. I had never heard the whole album before and although it is a little out of my comfort zone, I pretty much loved it for the genre. It reached #27 in the UK and #33 in the US where it sold over one million. 4/5

62 The Frank and Walters - Trains, Boats and Planes
The debut album from the indie band from Cork. They were always one of those bands that I picked up their singles but was never a big fan although "After All" is a total anthem and well deserved #11 hit. Listening to it now I really enjoy this even more, it is so much stronger than what passes for most of this genre in 2023 and would love to hear more bands that come up with songs like "Fashion Crisis Hits New York" or "This Is Not a Song". "Happy Busman" is still a bit of a landfill dud though. Their only hit album it reached #36 in the UK. 4/5

61 Green Day - Kerplunk
In the week that Green Day return, we go back to their 2nd album and barring the very rough production, they are already the band we know. All that rubbish about 'Dookie' being a sell out, the two records are not that different, just 'Dookie' has better songs and better production, the sound did not change. But as somebody who owns every Green Day album from 'Dookie' onwards, yes even the triple release.....but shocking I never listened to this album until a few weeks ago, and it is fantastic, very rough but I loved it, there are a few misses and a couple of skippable songs, but the best stuff is damn good. The record never charted, although it went on to sell over 1 million in the US alone. 4/5

60 The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
Their second album and it is no departure at all from their debut, which is fine as this means this album is great as well. Not much to say except this album maybe features my favourite Black Crowes single which is "Remedy". It is just a solid rock n roll blues album as you expect. The record reached #1 in the US and #2 in the UK selling over 2 million copies. 4/5

59 Giant - Time to Burn
After already being familiar with some tracks of their debut and really enjoying it, I had to add the follow-up and thankfully it is no drop in quality at all, and actually finishes higher placed in its year. Giant are for sure one of the best AOR bands still go strong in the 90s. So in 1992 I would have felt a bit of a dinosaur playing this, 30 odd years later It is perfectly fine and can sit alongside the more 'cool' stuff. a couple of tracks did well on radio in US but the album did not chart. 4/5

58 Gun - Gallus
This is really the solid second album section as this is the third in a row. Gun are maybe sounding a bit more US on this album, they still felt like Scottish rockers on their debut, here it has gone very Transatlantic. That is fine and on the big hit 'Steal Your Fire', they do their best Def Leppard impression. And to be fair that comparison carries through most of the album, so not one of her best records but definitely not their worst by any stretch. The record reached #14 in the UK but overall did not match the sales of their debut or their next album. 4/5

I bought the Frank And Walters album. Had a few good songs, but wasn't a major classic for me.

57 Annie Lennox - Diva
This might be a shock to some, me placing her debut solo album so high. You can tank TOTP reruns for this as she seemed to be on with every single and they are all pretty damn good. "Why" is maybe not my usual taste but she performs it so well, with her voice rarely sounding better, I just have to appreciate it. But the more uptempo tracks like "Walking on Broken Glass" and "Little Bird". Not sure why I like this so much more than recent Eurythmics albums, it must be the songwriting. the record reached #1 in the UK and #23 in the US. And earns her her first 4/5 excepting 1986's 'Revenge' and her best year-end finish!! I think it maybe says that 1992 is not the deepest of years. 4/5

56 Blind Melon - Blind Melon
Very few 90s bands are defined by one song as much as Blind Melon certainly in the US, maybe EMF or Chumbawamba. This is their debut album and although the album starts off great, it is kind of grunge-lite but by track 4 you are already thinking, when is 'No Rain' coming on. It does pick up with track 6 'Change' the best song that isn't that song on the album. But then you grin for 3 1/2 minutes as 'No rain' comes on, and then the rest all just merges into a local band set, like you would hear in the background of a small town festival. I still enjoyed it but it won't change your life, stick to the hit! The record reached #3 in the US and #53 in the UK. 4/5

75 The Lightning Seeds - Sense
The second album from the early Brit Pop band, and they are a band now rather than just a Ian Broudie project. I think I will find this with most of their albums but Lightening Seeds are a singles band, no denying that. The singles are by far the best songs especially 'The Life of Riley'. The rest is fine if not very memorable. No such thing really as a bad Lightening Seeds song but an album's worth can be a bit samey. The record reached #53 in the Uk and #154 in the US. 3.5/5 I was a big fan of them in the 90's, have their first 3 albums, Life Of Riley is great, but I really like "Sense" with Terry Hall.

55 The Darling Buds - Erotica
It maybe their third and final album but I think it is better than album #2 and pretty close to their debut. Their move to shoegaze/dream pop is much more successful than their late 80s peers and 'Sure Thing' is one of the best things they have ever done. Like The Primitives 1990 might as well be 30 years ago, how quick you are shoved aside in indie pop land. Also like The Primitives this album failed to chart. 4/5

54 The 4 of Us - Man Alive
The second album from the Irish band and although this album is maybe not as well known as their debut, it did score them their first hit single, finally, in the UK. 'She Hits Me' reached #35 in the UK. But like so many in this year, that is prey much thanks to 99p CD singles everywhere, and only needing about 1000 sales to go top 40. I did by that song and the title track but not the album soi this was the first time me hearing it and I think although not as familiar, it is just as strong overall. It also charted reaching #64 in the UK. 4/5

53 INXS - Welcome to Wherever You Are
Their eighth album and unlike 'X' they realise things need to change. This is probably the last essential INXS album, they are still the INXS we know and love but now they have injected much more rock into their sound, and they are almost alt-rock in places. Most obviously on the lead single "Heaven Sent". It is a very varied record going from the horns based "Baby Don't Cry", to the r'n'b funk of "Taste It" and they still have room for once last classic ballad in "Beautiful Girl". The record gave them one last number one in the UK and #18 in the US. 4/5

52 Sonic Youth - Dirty
Just missing my top 50, it had been in there is their seventh album. 'Dirty' is probably the most conventional and accessible album in their catalogue. Seeing what is going on in grunge, Sonic Youth turn up the guitars but unlike their more punk or experimental early albums, they have hooks now and their videos pretty much all pick up MTV play. Sonic Youth are mainstream, surely not!! Well it got me, I liked a lot of their stuff from hearing it in indie clubs and The Chart Show but '100%' was the first release I bought of theirs and then 'Sugar Kane' was even better, which steps really far into Pixies territory. This is maybe accessible but it is not the place to start with them as this album is not typical and will just confuse you, when you listen to the rest but if you are already familiar but never heard it, give it ago especially if you like the more underground side of grunge. Now reflected in chart placing, this album went to #6!!! in the Uk and a more expected #83 in the US. 4/5

Now this album is really my #50 as current #50 is in the wrong year, it shoudl be in 1991 51 Mega City Four - Sebastopol Rd
This is actually the band's fourth album but their first on a major label and it includes their debut hit 'Stop'. Not a lot to say about them really, they had a very distinctive indie rock sound and most of their songs had the same punky but positive feel. The sort of band that opens a main stage or halfway up the line-up on Other stage. I cannot imagine Mega City Four being anyone favourite band, they are great at what they do but there is not a lot to hook you in. Although the frontman Wiz was always fun in interview. Their next album has more well known songs and is better overall. The record reached #41 in the UK. 4/5

50 Not 50 Marillion - Holidays in Eden
Yes this will still be #50 but in 1991. The sixth album from the band and this is quite a change, or maybe a little sideways step. Marillion are now 'Joshua Tree' era U2 with a hint of AOR. Yes you are hearing me right. It is not super surprising as Steve Hogwarth's new wave past will be making an impression on the band. The prog has not gone completely but in general it is rock anthems, big choruses and production like crystal. I absolutely loved this record and I feel I shouldn’t as it is pretty much despised by their fans. Well I love it 'No One Can' could almost be a Glass Tiger song but the finest moment is "Cover My Eyes (Pain and Heaven)". The record reached #7 in the UK 4/5
