49 New Fast Automatic Daffodils - Body Exit Mind
The second studio album from the Manchester band and they may have changed their sound a little, but arguably they are now even better. They are just on a different level from most of their peers and this record has aged so much better than many early 90s albums. It is darker but much more interesting lyrically and musically. This is seemly called psychedelic dance, I love that. The record reached #57 in the UK. 4/5

48 The House of Love - Babe Rainbow
This is the third album from the Indie rock band and can you see a trend developing, yep hardly anyone cared again. Still a very good band with some great singles like "Crush Me" and "Feel". A lot of great reviews as well but it didn't matter, the album failed to match the success of their first two albums. The record reached #34 in the UK. 4/5

47 Boo Hewerdine - Ignorance
Although I have seen him live, just a few years ago, I don't know much of Boo's solo stuff, he is the ex frontman of The Bible. This record thought his debut, I did know a couple of tracks. He still sounds great but some of the magic is missing now but it is still a really sold record, if a little too long. It dud not chart. 4/5

46 Power of Dreams - 2 Hell With Common Sense
The second album from the Irish band but there was no real buzz about this one. Not surprisingly based on the rest of the list, there really is not much of a drop in quality, still so many strong songs on this album as well even if they have jumped a bit onto the shoe gaze bandwagon as well. There is still enough of their authentic sound in these tracks. This record still did ok especially in Ireland but did not chart. 4/5

45 The Prodigy - Experience
The debut album from the dance techno band and one of my flatmates was heavily into techno so I heard this a lot. I never saw anything special with them at first even though I actually really liked 'Charly' but part of that was novelty. So much of this record is way better than their debut hit. Fvaourites "Jericho", "Your Love", "Out of Space" and of course "Everybody in the Place (155 and Rising)" which is just a mad track. So a pretty great album but they will get even better. The record reached #12 in the UK. 4/5

44 Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
The debut album from Jason's Pearce new outfit, he was an ex member of Spacemen 3 who have had a bit of success in these lists but his new band are a step-up for sure. My introduction was through the epic 'Run' a brilliant mix of space rock and shoegaze and it is fairly typical of the album. The whole album is excellent though and just has such a great vibe. Much hail this as their best album as after this they do get more conventional closer to The Verve in sound. The record reached #27 in the UK 4/5

43 Ned's Atomic Dustbin - Are You Normal?
The not so essential second album from the UK alt-rock band. Everything is still here that made their debut great and makes them such a brilliant live act but it is just not as good. So more bass heavy punk-pop and things don't get interesting really until we get to the final track 'Intact' which is probably in their top 5 songs. But there is nothing I don't like it is just an album that has little reason to exist, just play the debut. The record reached #13 in the Uk. 4/5

42 Def Leppard - Adrenalize
But then you could say that about many records including this one. How do you follow two of the greatest rock albums ever, well of the 80s at least. Well in Def Leppard's case you just turn the OTT up to 11. "Let's Get Rocked" is pretty silly and so is "Make Love Like a Man" but then they still have some brilliant moments as well like "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad" and the highlight the epic anthem 'White Lightning'. But it has all gone a bit ridiculous but then how else does a band like this survive in the new grunge world. The record was a US and UK #1 and sold 5 million in the US alone. 4/5

41 Neil Young - Harvest Moon
His 3rd appearance on my lists and I suspect I will go back and add some earlier albums to the 80s lists and just wait till we get to the 70s where we may even see him in the top 10. This is his 19th album and a spiritual successor to that album 'Harvest' which will be massive for me in 1972, "Heart of Gold", is one of my all-time favourite 70s songs, not sure if I ever made that list yet, need to!! Anyway he totally succeeds this album totally recaptures the magic of t'Harvest' especially on the title track. The record reached #9 in the UK and #16 in the US where it sold over 2 million. 4/5

ok top 40 time 40 Thomas Dolby - Astronauts & Heretics
At this point in time, I only really knew Dolby for 'Hyperactive' and 'He Blinded Me...' so hearing 'Close But No Cigar' for the first time, I could not believe it was the same artist. Of course we have seen/heard from these lists that he has been making sophisto-pop since day one, it is just the more novelty tracks that took hold in the mainstream. Also I should have realised due to his brilliant production work for Prefan Sprout. His fourth album was a surprise still, but then the second single came out and it for me is the best song he ever did "I Love You Goodbye", it is just gorgeous in every way. There is still room for a bit of silly on the track "Silk Pyjamas" but on the whole this is sophisto-pop at its best still in 1992. The record reached #35 in the UK. 4/5

39 Peter Gabriel - Us
This is his 6th album and in sound it may not be a great departure from 'So' especially on the lead single 'Steam' which looks and sounds like 'Sledgehammer' even with the similar video. But what has changed is the lyrics and this is maybe Peter's most personal album. I wasn't a lyric guy at the time so it just sounded like a lesser 'So' but if you are, this may even be his best album. My views have changed though thee is much to love on this even the tracks I didn't get at the time 'Digging in the Dirt' especially are so good now. Unexpectedly 'So' topped my 1986 list although I love this more now, it is not going to do anything that dramatic. The record reached #2 in the UK and US. 4/5

38 The Boo Radleys - Everything's Alright Forever
Their second album and probably their most straightforward shoe-gaze, although a Boo's record never stays in one place but more than most of them, this one does. It is very up and down, some tracks are a bit rubbish, others boring and others some of the finest examples of the genre. Is 'Lazy day' the best shoe-gaze song under 2 minutes long?, ok it doesn't have much competition in that regard, it actually is probably in my top 10 shoe-gaze songs ever. You play it once and just have to play it again. Anyway, a mixed bag, they will nail it soon. The record reached #55 in the UK. 4/5

37 Bon Jovi - Keep The Faith
Their fifth album and maybe a surprise it is so high, well to be honest it surprised me. I had never heard this album in full before and it was so good. The first 5 tracks are all anthems and then we get the epic album version of 'Dry County' then I expected it to fall of a cliff and it didn't the remaining 5 album tracks were all good, ok we could have done without the last one but even still, this record is very underrated and even RYM, gives the tracks high scores even if the overall score is a bit average but you will have those snobby haters who will just not get it. We will see if there is any record that can compete with the first 5 on this, I am sure there wont be any that will get you singing round the room like these rock classics. The record reached #1 in the Uk and #5 in the US and has sold 8 million worldwide, they are still very much a big deal. 4/5

36 The Jesus and Mary Chain - Honey's Dead
Their fourth album and their highest placing yet. This again maybe says more about 1992 than anything else but I think this was the year I finally got them, I was into shoegaze, alt-rock and things like that, so J&MC were totally yp my street now. It also helps that the album was led by two awesome singles, the epic and controversial 'Reverence' and the yes the baggy, I know, 'Far Gone and Out'. Yes they go baggy and show almost everyone how it should be done, it has also aged better than 99% of the music in that genre as well. The whole album though is very solid and ok it may not get the plaudits of their first two albums but I really like it. The record reached #14 in the UK and #158 in the US. 4/5

Keep The Faith was the only regular Bon Jovi album I bought.
Mega City Four are in my 1991 retro chart now.

35 If? - English Boys on the Love Ranch
First album I own in 1992, I really didn't have much money, lived out of bargain bins for most of my music and even then I bought this a few years later. This is the only album from the band who apart from the radio club hit 'Saturday's Angels?' did not have much success. The dance pop group were a project of Dave Ball, of Soft Cell fame and after the band split the other members formed Earl Brutus, a bit of a musical change. I didn't know any of that at the time, no internet eh!! As for this record it is just that a solid dance pop record think The Beloved and you pretty much have the vibe. I loved this short-lived band. 4/5

I love that Bon Jovi album. 'In these arms' is the one I most enjoy listening to put of their entire catalogue now!... and 'Dry county' should be a lot more widely known than it is, it's just epic!

34 Lush - Spooky
Their second studio album and still very much in shoe gaze territory. I prefer their EP compliation 'Gala' to this but it still has a lot of their best songs even if it is a bit light compared to some of their best moments. The highlights are the singles "Nothing Natural" and "For Love" but really it is a superb shoe gaze record, very moody with Miki and Emma's gorgeous vocals drifting all over it. The record reached #7 in the UK. 4/5

33 Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine - 1992: The Love Album
Their third album and most successful yet now on a major label. let by the single "After the Watershed" which is possibly their finest moment but it had to be omitted from the record due to the 'Ruby Tuesday' lyric. But still plenty to love "The Only Living Boy in New Cross" is just as epic and their biggest hit reaching #11 in the UK. The rest has its up and downs and I can always do without "The Impossible Dream", Carter version or not. The record reached #1 in the UK 4/5

32 Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
This was a very hard album to place, the debut album from the political rap/metal outfit. I loved this band at the time and I bought all the singles, my flatmate had the CD. I just find it hard work today, yes it is groundbreaking, important, well played, all the ingredients are awesome, this is a classic record. I just don't want to listen to it. A bit of a problem. I dunno maybe you have to be in the right mood. So although I do think it is one of the best albums of 1992, I can't place it higher if I don't love listening to it. The record reached #17 in the Uk and #45 in the US but has sold over 5 million worldwide, almost a million in the Uk alone. 4/5
