I missed 'Midnight Train To Georgia' on my chart this year - that would have pushed Gladys Knight & the Pips up considerably on my artist chart. I guess I will have to wait until 1976 until it charts in the UK!

So the Beatles hold onto the top spot even though they have scored only 38 points in the last 3 years,
T Rex have closed the gap to nearly 3000 points, but David Bowie is the big mover going from 15th to 3rd place, could he take the top spot in 1974, he would need 5.718 points to do it.
Other big movers include the Carpenters, Elton John, Sweet, Slade, The highest new act is Wizzard at 43.

This shows the annual points scored by our current top 5 artists, you can see the early domination of the Beatles has collapsed, and the rise of T.Rex & David Bowie. This shows the yearly cumulative points showing the huge lead the Beatles enjoyed in the 60's is being caught by the rest of the top 5

Great, thanks once again!
It feels weird that we're in a time before anyone has heard of Queen or ABBA. I wonder how high they will chart on that Retro artists list next year!

My Top Artists 1967-1973
1 [1] Beatles 2,746 pts 2 [2] Rolling Stones 2,139 3 [3] Aretha Franklin 1,742 4 [12] David Bowie 1,552 5 [4] Kinks / Dave Davies 1,545 6 [5] Elvis Presley 1,519 7 [7] Marvin Gaye 1,421 8 [6] Monkees 1,406 9 [8] T Rex / Tyrannosaurus Rex 1,359 10 [9] Creedence Clearwater Revival 1,240
Seven of the Top 10 scored points in 1973, with Bowie, Marvin Gaye and T Rex making the year end Top 40 artists. I assume Bowie will eventually overtake The Beatles, but we're now past his peak as far as I am concerned.
11 [10] Doors 1,238 12 [11] Simon & Garfunkel 1,094 13 [13] Supremes 994 14 [15] John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band 945 15 [14] Bee Gees 927 16 [16] Glen Campbell 833 17 [17] Johnny Cash 782 18 [26] Elton John 749 19 [23] Temptations 742 20 [18] Otis Redding 738
Elton John finished 12th in 1973, and climbs 8 places as a result.
21 [19] Beach Boys 736 22 [37] Slade 730 23 [21] Van Morrison 729 24 [20] Four Tops 719 25 [41] Status Quo 709 26 [51] Sweet 707 27 [22] Bob Dylan 693 28 [24] Staple Singers 679 29 [25] Rod Stewart 598 30 [62] Eagles 568
A big jump for Slade, while Status Quo, Sweet and Eagles all enter the Top 40.
31 [81] Roxy Music 536 32 [27] Tom Jones 508 33 [39] Hot Chocolate 504 34 [28] Neil Diamond 496 35 [46] Ike & Tina Turner 486 36 [31] Sly & Family Stone 476 37 [29] Smokey Robinson & Miracles 455 38 [30] Tammi Terrell 445 39 [58] Stevie Wonder 439 40 [44] Isley Brothers 439
Roxy Music leap 50 places to #31 having been my 4th biggest act of 1973. Stevie Wonder enters the Top 40 for the first time, having reached #44 from 1967-1970. Ike & Tina Turner and the Isley Brothers are both re-entries into the Top 40.
Dropping out:- Jackie Wilson, Johnny Nash, the Equals, Booker T & the MGs, PP Arnold, Neil Young and Nina Simone. I doubt any of them will ever return to my all-time Top 40.
Bubblers:- Carpenters at #42, up from #71; Gary Glitter at #44 up from #123.
New entries in the Top 75:- Paul McCartney / Wings (#58), Suzi Quatro (#59), Lou Reed (#68), Roy Wood / Wizzard (#72), Mott The Hoople (#73).
ABBA are now at #77 with 240 points, based solely on their pre-fame singles. I expect them to make my all-time Top 5, but don't know how close they'll come to matching The Beatles and David Bowie.
