I didn't want to be burned again. I was so close but went no...so I watched 'Yu Yu Hakusho' of Netflix instead and I haven't seen Dr Who as good as that first episode since Matt Smith so I think I made the right choice.

i will probably watch it at some point, to be fair Xmas episodes are rarely my faves, they tend to be super cheesy

This one did have some elements of cheese in it...but then again so does a Big Mac and that's gorge as well.
If there were one adjective to describe that episode though it's "explosive".

Xmas Day TV Ratings: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-67821839The BBC has the top eight, with Dr Who in third place. Personally speaking, genuine Doctor Who is back - wit, entertainment, humanity, character development (going back to a single companion Millie's a breath of fresh air instantly helps with that). RT Davies just "gets it". Ncuti has a magnificent aura about his Doctor. His Doctor clearly has much of himself in there, but there's a bit of the other Doctors about him. Whilst the three specials felt stronger, any new doctor/new companion stories always have background work to do, with alongside being a Xmas episode meant it had to be more lightweight, but entertaining which this Gremlins-Labyrinth homage sure was. In short my favourite show is alive and well and back in the hands of someone who gets what Dr Who is, and wants it to entertain to attract the masses rather than meddle with its base concepts under the dire fill in teacher/social worker years of Chibnall/Whittaker. PS. If we are dealing with alternative universe with "Mavity", then maybe it would have been mischievous fun to have Davina McCall killed by that Christmas Tree. Not least as the "mother" of Millie silhouette looked uncannily like The Traitors' Claudia Winkleman. (Davina is Claudia's first choice stand in for her Radio 2 late morning show).
I can't wait to see more of Mrs Flood (Anita Dobson) - I sure noticed her finger nails were painted red. Her character name surely cannot be a coincidence to River Song; and Amy Pond. Roll on next (Brian) May.

I did enjoy it I must say. I have high hopes for the show with the new Doctor and companion. Intriguing that Mrs. Flood knew what a Tardis is!

rather than meddle with its base concepts under the dire fill in teacher/social worker years of Chibnall/Whittaker. Well we will see, one of his priorities should be undoing 'The Timeless Children' one of the biggest crimes of Dr Who ever but twice in the specials, he doubled down on it and I hear it came up again last night. I hope though that he has a plan and some of the mistakes will be rectified without upsetting his buddies. Haven't watched this episode yet but wasn't Anita Dobson, Rose Tyler's mum, she was in the first episode anyway can't remember exactly who she was?

Aww must have mixed it up.
Anyway just watched . I think it is the best of the specials . Not a fan of musical stuff or Davina but the second half was great . I gave Jodie more of a chance than she deserved so I will be back . Helps that I am ‘working’ today so could watch it while I was ‘doing’ that.

I always think i have to grow with the doctor as they carry on. Mu initial thought was that it was cheesy and comical. I need to waych more Ncuti's doctor before i make judgememnt whether he is any good or not.
When Jodie W took over i didint like it at first but as it went on i grew to acccept her so i think the same will happen to Ncuti's doctor

I really enjoyed the special. I'm not a Doctor Who die-hard by any means and tend to dip in and out but I was very impressed by Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.
