World Party were hugely underrated. This is very sad news.

This news has upset me. Karl Wallinger's band were one which the critics loved but the public did not get. As is often the case I agreed with the music critics.
World Party - This Time
World Party - Way Down Now
and their (Karl's best song)
World Party - She's The One

Very sad, I liked the few songs I heard by them, was he in the Waterboys to start with, or have I got that wrong? Loved Is it like today?

Very sad, I liked the few songs I heard by them, was he in the Waterboys to start with, or have I got that wrong? Loved Is it like today? Yes he was for their second & third albums.
The most famous song he co-wrote (he did the music & Mike Scott wrote the lyrics and top line vocals) was
The Waterboys - Don't Bang The Drum (1985)
Wallinger also worked as musical director on the late Sinéad O'Connor's 1987 debut album The Lion and the Cobra. O'Connor returned the favour by singing some backing vocals on the first two World Party albums.
