This is a question relating to my end-of-year chart. Downloadable singles are eligible for it, so it may include songs that bands have made available, either for free or at a price, from their websites or through a legal download site.
My question is do you think I should include any song (from this year) that is available to download on a band's website, or just those that are seemingly "official" downloadable singles (eg 'Clones' by Ash, 'Bam Thwok' by the Pixies)?

well as its YOUR chart you need to set your own parameters
If you're not gonna include album tracks then that includes downloadable album tracks
And surely given that its your end-of-year chart it will only include tracks which you already charted anyway?

Also, I don't include downloadable singles in my monthly chart. I suppose the question I'm asking should really be "When does an album track become a single?" If there's a video for a song, and it can be downloaded on a band's site then it's possible to interpret it as a downloadable single. |

why does your year end chart not bear any relation to your monthly chart? What criteria do you use to compile your year end chart if not the tracks you enjoyed during the year?  |

I didn't say the songs were different. A songs that does well in the monthly chart will obviously feature in the end of year chart. I just meant the monthly chart counts for nought come the end of the year. I start from scratch. There are other factors that come in to play at the end of the year. Some songs may have grown on me, I may have heard songs that I hadn't heard when they came out, I may go off some songs, usually because they've been overplayed on the music channels (Hello, Green Day!), I may have obtained a song I couldn't before, enabling me to hear it when I want and there's also the aforementioned downloadable singles. |

ok well given all that you just said, your year-end chart reflects the songs you have enjoyed throughout the year. Therefore you should include any song regardless of format.

Thing is, in the past, it's always been restricted to singles, and I intend to keep it that way for as long as possible, but the lines between singles and album tracks are becoming increasingly blurred.
