What do we think that Band Aid 20 will sell then? It's a tough call, loads of hype around and it is for charidee, song seemed to be hated when first aired, but has grown on me... What will it do 1st week and what will it do in total, think I just saw an article saying 1 million have been shipped! Couple of 100 have already been sold this week as it is at #118 or it was on monday;) I'm thinking 40,000 on monday maybe, 175k first week, maybe 200k...?

Atleast 100k the first week. Single sales are down so I'm not sure how many will actually buy this.

I would certainly expect it to become the biggest seller of the year, I would estimate around 750k in total. It could break the million mark depending on how people are feeling - if peopl buy it because they think they should then obviously it will sell bucketloads more.
And I would expect a huge rush first week for it, probably 200k +

They shipped at least one million. We shall see... I expect it'll top the download chart too.

Although the song overall has grown on me, I really do think the ending is a problem. Just sounds so laboured on the radio...
As for sales 500k ish.. maybe beating Eamon for the no.1 of the year.

If they've shipped a mill, I guess it may sell close to that as shops flood bargain bins if necessary? Cant wait to see first day sales on tuesday lunchtime...

One million seems optimistic as the journalists seem a lot more excited about this than the public. The hype will rub off onto some, and the hardcore fans of all the acts on the line-up will want to have a copy, but a lot of fans have got out of the habit of buying every single by their favourites.
I think sales of 200k for the first week are realistic, but I just don't think that many people like it and a lot of people say they'd rather donate money directly. At least the debate seems to have moved on from who is cool enough to be on board to the actual reason behind the fundraising.

The more times I hear this version the more it sucks. I don't think it will sell so much. 200 or 300 k maybe.

I'm wondering where is the chorus? They should sing it high or atleast loud well it should be much higher than the verses, you know when it comes the chorus should be big in lack of another word. The end is the worst because it is there where it should be a very loud chorus and it is nothing there absolutely nothing...

The end is just totally bland in my opinion, because there's no bells ringing and it just sounds completely empty and false. I will still buy it though.

It's sold 95K on it's first day.
Probably looking at about 400K then?

Well I bought it, and got filmed buying it so could possibly be on telly, and got interviewed by another journalist as well on Monday.
But then I but a lot of singles and most people don't. I didn't want to download it because that would be stealing from the charity.
My feelings are that:
1. "Do They Know It's Christmas" was our song - the song for my generation, when I was 19. The new generation know that and would prefer their own song, I think.
2. They could have done both. Written a new song and recorded it as a double A-side with a cover of "Do They Know It's Christmas". Then those buying the single would at least be getting 2 songs instead of 3 versions of the same one.
3. It was noteworthy that the 1989 version is not on the CD, and that when I mentioned it to a young female journalist who was interviewing me, she didn't even know of the 1989 version. I think that version sold about 650K in total.
4. The music single was generally strong in 1984 - we'd had several million sellers that year already.
5. The documentary showing the children starving to death in Africa was watched by many, and those who hadn't seen it originally became aware of it. That had a strong effect.
6. We hadn't had many charity singles, if any.
7. It was during the miners strike. Ok, that might have meant we had a different cause competing, but I think it raised a lot of anger with the government about being uncaring and that we all had to go out and help.

We have this one as well and I hate it... And I was rather unlucky to hear it (quite loud as well) yesterday afternoon...

I think it will climb towards the end of the week and Saturday sales will be high again, still could end up at 4-500k
