They just have that raw British working-class brilliance that people like here. Much like Oasis when they started. Admittedly, I don't think that always translates very well overseas.

The first single was a deserved #1 - wasn't keen at first but really grew on me.
Second single not convinced as yet, sounds like a Pulp b-side to me.

The album is a real grower, and the new tracks that I did not know are as good as my fave tracks before the album came out, scummy is not as good as dancefloor imo, but still a top tune, think not big will be #1 this week though.

I don't like them, but I don't dislike them either. I don't see anything 'new and exciting' about them, at all.

No there's nothing wrong with you at all as I don't like them either. The first single was okay I suppose but I don't like the second one at all and certainly won't be buying the album. Couldn't escape it on Sat though as it was playing in three music stores I went in to within 30 minutes.I can't see what all the fuss is about to be honest and yes I have heard the album in full.Does nothing for me at all.

IMO it is one of the best ever examples of the Emperors New Clothes syndrome. Everyone now is jumping on the bandwagon, saying how great they are, but I just don't see it - and in a year or two, a lot of other people may be realisiing the same thing. TO me they just sound like a.n.other indie band.

People say that, but cant name another indioe band that they sound like. Some have compared em to the libertines, I just dont see it.

Three points
1) I don't think this is really a chart forum topic. More suitable for music or indie. We are not really supposed to talk about the relative merits of artists in this forum.
2) The concept of acts deserving success is funny to me. Did Mariah deserve 16 no.1s or so in America where women like Tori Amos don't get a top 40 hit? Basically what I am saying is that if you expect great music to do well you are going to be disappointed.
3) The Arctic Monkeys are good - not crap not brilliant. Just overhyped - so you can't blame the band themselves for it. In fact they seem to say that themselves.

The NME only has a circulation of 70k a week, even if every singles reader of the NME bought a copy last week thats only about 20% of its sales...

I agree with Daz, I was the same, yes some have bought after hearing thru the media about them, but so what, there's an element of hype about most bands at some point, dido bubbled around the charts for ages before going thru the roof, as did James Blunt. At the end of the day, we cant all like the same music, if we did, it would be very dull. personally I cant stand eminem at the moment, think he has released pretty duff stuff recently, and as for 50 cent, I just dont get it, in da club was ok, rest is dire, yet they are top 10 hits every time, I dont get that hype, but at the end of the day there is a market there for it.

I thought that the Arctic Monkeys were a load of crap when I first heard them, but they've slowly grown on me over the last few months to the point that I now quite like them. I bought the album on this basis as I think there's potential for me to like every single track on it. There's also a chance the album could pass 2m, because I think like James Blunt they've been successful through word of mouth. A lot of my friends have only recently heard of them, and I don't think their opinion now is the same as when they first heard of them.
