Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave.
It was let slip almost a week ago but confirmed yesterday that he will sing the theme from the new James Bond file, Casino Royale, entitled You Know My Name. He co-wrote the song with composer, David Arnold. Its due for release in November.
He is the first male singer to sing a Bond theme since A-ha recorded The Living Daylights in 1987.

Heard this news on imdb and wasn't particularly awe-struck. I don't know much of Soundgarden's output but he hardly strikes me as a "name" to rank alongside Shirley, Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Madonna etc. Are they deliberately trying to make this movie low-key and not appealing?

i love Chris Cornell...
if you want a voice for rock then he is your man, maybe they are choosing him based on that, a new direction...
its just personal choice but im pleased Chris Cornell got it, to me he is a big name, hes the voice of a generation...it might not be the kinda music you like but you cant knock what the mans achieved

I think its part of the way they want to change James Bond
Apparently he almost turned it down because he didn't like Pearce Brosnan's Bond films
When they showed him bits of the new one he changed his mind because he says they've really changed it for the better

The REAL news here is that David Arnold is the co-writer. He's worked on the previous 3 Bond themes, so it's in safe hands, whoever the singer is.

Not impressed ny such choice... I guess I'll avoid watching this film. James Bond era is over IMO.

Sounds interesting - I like Audioslave. Really looking forward to the new film, too.

VILE! Why must this boring sh*te get everywhere. The best James Bond themes are preformed by talented female vocalists like Gladys Knight, Sheena Easton, and Tina Turner . When they try to target miserable teenage boys and trendy types it's always sh1t - anyone for another Garbage or Sheryl Crow effort LOL. This will be hideous. If they must do it on the cheap why not hire a low rent diva like Chaka Khan or Donna Summer -- they'd do it for a bag of crisps and their bus fare home...
