It's just all about the money this reunion.

not much of a secret it was in the papers this morning
The Spice Girls have finally signed up for a reunion world tour - for which they will earn £10million each.
All the members of the former chart-topping band; Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger), and Emma Bunton (Baby) will be present for the announcement of the group's return to the pop arena next week.
Masterminded by former svengali and ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller, the group are to announce details of their 25-date "farewell" extravaganza at the O2 Dome in Greenwich, south London, next Thursday.
A statement issued from Fuller's 19 Entertainment, said: "No further information can be given at this time but given the bands unique history, you can be sure to expect the unexpected!."
The announcement will put an end to speculation surrounding a comeback by the girls which reached its height when all of the former Spice's bar Mel C were reunited at David Beckham's birthday party in London earlier this year.
"This deal has taken years to sign off. But finally all of the girls are on board.
"It's going to be one of the most phenomenal pop events ever. No expense is being spared to make this an unrivalled spectacular."
The band's Virgin record label is so keen to keep the girls happy that they are hiring five private jets to take each of the singers - and their respective entourages - around the globe.
Last month the band were being offered £5million each for a six-date tour.
After intense negotiations, following Melanie Chisholm's reluctance to get involved, the £10million deal saw them agree to expand the gigs that begin in London in December.
"The sum on the table is huge - but then it had to be to get the more reluctant members like Mel C to agree.
"She's been quite precious about her solo career and has always said she'd never get back with the girls.
The source added: "Now she's now one of the most enthusiastic - although they're all buzzing with a mixture of excitement and trepidation."
The lives of Posh, Scary and Mel have changed considerable since the girls' 90s heyday. No longer commitment-free, the reunion tour will need to accommodate the girls entourages which include children, nannies and family members. The private jets will no doubt help ease the strain. According to the source: "Geri doesn't want to be apart from daughter Bluebell for the tour - and the only reason Victoria has agreed is so that her sons can see what she used to do. That all needed to be taken into account."
After the London launch, Posh, Geri, Emma, Mel B and Mel C will then travel all over Europe, the Far East, America and the Middle East for the remaining 24 dates through to the end of January.

Oh, didn't know they'd confirmed the date of the press conference in papers?! I never believe rumours - just official news so not paid much attention to newspapers.

Whether this is a good thing or not is open to conjecture. Short term is definitely the best.
I'd certainly love to see them. They were great for their time and made good, pure pop records. My fav was 2 Become 1.

Am I missing something here? If it's known that they are doing a reunion tour, a new single and a greatest hits, why the press conference?
Will they be doing a full blown comeback a la Take That perhaps?

There is supposed to be a TV Documentary about them at Christmas, too. I was never a huge Fan. I prefer ABBA for my Pop Music. The truth is that whilst they did well with their first 2 Albums, the Spice Girls only had 1 Number 1 Single in most Countries - 'Wannabe'. They were not forever at Number 1 across the Globe. They had about 4 or 5 Number 1 Singles in Ireland, & 9 in the UK - they did not do nearly as well anywhere else - not with Singles, anyhow.
And their 3rd Album, ('Forever'), was a terrible Seller compared to their first 2.
We will see how their 'Come Back' does. Mel C was the only one with a strong voice.

Can I ask why you always make your posts long and narrow?

So 50 mill up front for the Girls, and that doesn't include the cost of the jets if that is true, will they actually make any money back on this, the organisers? Sounds like a BIG gamble to me.

ManicKangaroo, Yes, you may ask. But, it does not matter that I do them that way.
It is of no relevance whatsoever.
I do far 'deeper' Posts at Buzzjack. I tend to just write about the Charts, or Music in general, here.

I didn't mean "long" in that you wrote a lot, just that you condense it into half the room you have available
It doesn't matter - I just wondered why
It takes up more room on the page, thats all
