They are indeed, just languishing below the play-offs for a league position!

I love the Conference, so many old league teams battling it out in there! It is all being sorted below conference level to Conf North and Conf South next season as well, 2 from each will feed into it. And my local side will be in the North section, and just a step away from the Conf, mind you, think their ground is not up to standard.

Hereford had better win the playoffs, they just missed out last year, well a distant 6th or 7th... they at least look fairly safe to be in it... though it'd take a bit of a collapse in form to overhaul Chester now!

Playoffs are such a lottery though:( Stags could be in them as well later in the year:(

lots of games in hand for my conference team (shrewsbury)... still an outisde chance they can overhaul chester! 12 points down and only 2 games in hand, highly unlikely I'd say, but then with 8-12 games to go depending on who you are, I spose anything can happen!

Teams that drop out of the football league and then get back in again seem to do remarkably well. Look at Doncaster this season ;D So long term, things may be good for Shrewsbury

yeah... going for a second successive promotion. teams promoted from the conference nearly always do well in div.3 the following season.

But sometimes they then struggle to stay there, I remember Barnet one year had a DISASTROUS season in the 2nd div, only got about 10 points the entire season? Shows the gap is small between 3rd and Conf, but also that promotion followed by wise spending can guarantee promotion again, Look at Brighton and Plmouth in the football league. I think macclesfield are on their way back out the league, no great loss to be honest, be a shame to lose Carlisle or Darlo though.
