(Mackem = Sunderland) Oh dear, out on penalties, I've just had a phone call from one of my mates and, well, he's close to tears... What can you say?

BAH! I wanted Sunderland up as they have a GREAT BIG ground, Palace play at a falling down stadium dont they? Who's in the other semi? Hammers and Ipswich?? Prefer one of them to be honest, Ipswich, so they can play Norwich!

I would've liked to see Sunderland get promoted, but they would have gone straight back down... at least there'll be two teams in the 1st Division with massive crowds, Leeds ground holds 41,000 and Sunderland's ground holds 47,000! I go past Sunderland's ground every day on the way to work, it is a MASSIVE stadium. The capacity is going up to 55,000 in two years time too...

Can they still afford to do that though if they dont have Prem footy?

;D *favours ipswich* the stadium of light is one of the few english footy stadiums i've been anywhere near (not lucky enough to have gone inside one yet ). looks pretty spectacular... but it does seem surprising that they're increasing capacity that quickly shouldn't they be investing in the team rather than the ground if they want to go back up and stay there?

Can they still afford to do that though if they dont have Prem footy? Well they're £30m in debt, but they do own the land and it'll only cost about £16m to build the extra capacity. I suppose it depends on how the crowds are next season. This year they've only been getting 25,000 crowds, perhaps next season they might do better, though I doubt it.

When the ground was built it was originally a 40,000 capacity withy the capability to build up to 60,000. But in 1999 they decided to increase it to 47,500 and then increase it to just 55,000. Newcastle could increase the capacity to 62,000 but it would mean knocking down some student halls behind one of the stands and Newcastle University want £25m to build elsewhere... I don't think that's gonna happen, an increase of 10,000 capacity costing £25m plus the cost of demolishing a row of buildings which will probably cost another £2-3m...

;D at sunderland failure... they were through until palace got a goal back in injury time... they would have gone through on away goals, too they'll probably go up next season, anyway. i'm happy as palace or west ham was my prediction

Yeah, if Palace go up I can see them getting stuffed several times, being relegated and demoralised. West Ham have a much better chance of staying up if they lose next weekend.
