From www.skysports.comDons change name Monday, 21 June 2004 by Simon Fudge Wimbledon have been granted permission by The Football League to change their name to Milton Keynes Dons FC for next season. The name change comes in time for next season's Coca-Cola League One fixture list is announced on Thursday. The name change is to officially occur once the formalities of the club's takeover by Peter Winkelman's InterMK consortium has been approved by The Football League this summer. Following their move from their London base to the Buckinghamshire borough last season, the club's new owners believe the fresh name will give them a new identity whilst retaining the history of the club. The club will start next season by playing its matches in The National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes - with plans for a new stadium to be built in earnest.

That makes sense. The league renaming is silly though We should go back to leagues One, Two, Three and Four

what b****cks, how do they expect to retain the history of Wimbledon fc when it is now effectively a completely different club? Although, I acknowledge that it would have been rather ridiculous to keep the Wimbledon name... Ah well, at least Wimbledon live on through AFC who play just down the road from me...

They should just have called themselves Milton Keynes FC, it's a bit insulting I think to stick Dons on the end to all the old fans who they turned their backs on. Come on AFC Wimbledon Are they anywhere near football league status yet?

oh good... probably about time, too... the league-changing name thing is daft... "the championship" should go back to prem, div 1, div 2, div 3 etc...

Then call the conference "Division 5", and the conference north/south "Division 6N and 6S"
