just think that they will struggle against a class side In the last round, we beat the team that won the league ahead of the team Man U struggled against on Tuesday... At the Riverside, we're capable of beating anyone. The result was much more important than the performance last night. McClaren gambled by resting some players when we already had some missing, and it paid off. Top of the group, one more win from the last 3 games should see us through.

Do you know how much you got for getting to this stage? And is it top 2 thru to the next knockout phase? That must guarantee some more money as well? Top 3 go through...

Middlesbrough will be through to the next round tonight if Egaleo fail to beat Lazio.
Unfortunately, Egaleo are 1-0 up.

It's over! 2-2!
Unless there's a late goal in the Partizan-Villarreal game, both teams are out, and Boro, Partizan and Villarreal are through.

Partizan Belgrade 1-1 Villarreal
Going into the final round of matches, the group looks like this: (games played in brackets)
1. Middlesbrough 6 (3) 2. Partizan Belgrade 5 (3) 3. Villarreal 5 (3) 4. Lazio 3 (4) 5. Egaleo 1 (3)
A win for Boro against Partizan will see them win the group and avoid one of the Champions League rejects in the next round.

The Partizan game is at home, so we've got a good chance...

Given the quality of the UEFA Cup groups you'd have to be a pretty poor team not to qualify I would have thought...

But when you think about where Middlesbrough have come from (they were minutes away from going out of business in 1986) and the fact that this is our first ever European campaign, it is a remarkable achievement. Every bit of progress made in this competition is a step into unchartered territory for Boro.
You're right when you say it would take a poor team not to qualify from the group but it takes a good team to win it and Boro are one win away from doing that, pretty good considering we were seeded 3rd in the group.
Also, as poor as Lazio have been, we were the only team to beat them.

Yeah. Newcastle did well in the UEFA Cup last season, so they'll want to go a stage further this time. I wouldn't be surprised if another English team parachuted into the knockout stage, and we may well see Celtic as well.
