At just 25 Zara Phillips has followed her European success last year by brilliantly winning the World 3 Day Event Championship.
I nominated her last year as Sports Personality of The Year and barring the unlikely happening of Andy Murray winning the US Open I think she has a great chance of actually winning it this year - given that there are very few outstanding candidates.

She's now 2nd favourite behind Andy Murray and ahead of Monty Panesar. I didn't she was worthy of being nominated last year but winning a world title is something different and I agree that Andy Murray winning the US Open may be the only thing that stops her. My vote would go to Joe Calzaghe, though.

What happened to David Walliams in that? He's still a contender but finally some sportsmen and women have actually done something to put themselves ahead of him in the pecking order. Latest betting: 15/8 Zara Phillips 9/4 Andy Murray 9/2 Monty Panesar 10/1 Steven Gerrard 12/1 David Walliams 16/1 Colin Montgomerie 16/1 Joe Calzaghe 16/1 Darren Clarke 20/1 Ricky Hatton 25/1 Jenson Button
