...the following:
GERMANY 1-5 ENGLAND
Does it feel like 5 years ago?

It's also the 5th anniversary of having anything worth celebrating (unless you count Sven leaving)

Sven wasn't always so inept, just that in the preparation for the World Cup, a number of key players were injured and he knew he was on his way out anyway, so for some reason went down a crazy path.
I think if we'd had a fit Owen and Rooney throughout the World Cup we'd have done ok, although playing in the heat never helps, and England's 5-1 win in Germany was not played in hot conditions, which suited them much better.
I would prefer to see the World Cups played either in May or September when it's not so hot, instead of June/July. They'd just have to move the season a bit to cope with it, or even have a "break" in the season. But then I'd like to see the whole thing reformatted anyway.
Of course, you could see that game 5 years ago as being down to a totally inept Germany rather than a particularly fantastic England.

Sven wasn't always so inept You're right there - in fact after this match, Bell & Spurling released their song Sven Sven Sven (which made #7) as a tribute to Sven's 'genius' in this match. And an interesting coincidence - the match took place on 1st September 2001, which was the date on which car registration numbers changed to their current format (AB12 CDE) - and the numerical year code introduced on that day was 51!
