Andy Murray has beaten Tim Henman 6-2 5-7 7-6 (4) at his first attempt. He held his nerve to win the 3rd set tie-break after serving for the match when he had led 5-4 in the second set.
Does this mark a watershed in British tennis? Henman looked a tired old man today and while it wasn't a good quality match it was pleasing to see Andy hold his game together.
At long last there is the possibility that we have a player who COULD be there fighting at the last stages of a Slam tournament. Ther's a long way to go but I do fell optimistic.
And great that the BBC felt moved to show the match live this afternoon.

To be fair to Henman, he's not been himself since injury and I think it's unlikely he'll find his top form again. What is pleasing is that Britain has some hope for the future in Murray, who has a naturally stronger build than Henman, which fits in with the top players like Roddick and Federer. I just hope he has the natural talent to go all the way to the top.

he did say after the match that he was looking forward to the off court season because it has been a difficult year all round. I hope he does find his form back

Murray is too eratic to be a top quality player. When he's good, he's very very good, but as soon as starts loosing he really falls to pieces, and has tantrums, which is very unsportsmanlike.

It's far too early to judge. The boy is inexperienced at the main tour level so his true level should become apparent in the next couple of years.
I believe he definitely has the potential to be a top 20 player. Any higher, who knows? Luck in being able to avoid injuries plays a big part.
