First test is under way with Flintoff (fresh from his appearance on Deal or No Deal ) captaining the England team for the first time on home soil! A good start from England and Trescothick in particular, 199-1 at tea.

Trescothick departs for 106, another impressive innings from the Cornish man. England continue to slog along rather slowly at 233-2

346-4 now... run rate's at around 4 for the past few overs, after a slow start to the day.

A great debut for Sajid Mahmood - 3 wickets in his first 3 overs as Sri Lanka close on 91-6. Could be over tomorrow...

Yep. Sri Lanka have a lot to do to avoid an innings defeat... I know they're good at one-dayers, but are they supposed to be this rubbish in test matches?

They're not a great test nation but they're not supposed to be this rubbish in tests. That said, England have been virtually unstoppable at home over the last few years and we should win this series comfortably. Pakistan will be tougher but we should win that one as well.

Who took the last 6 wickets, did mahmood get any more? bbc seemed to feature more about the test century for bad hair pietersen than a 3 wicket haul for a debutant, seemed a bit odd to me.

Mahmood stayed on 3. Hoggard got 4, Flintoff 2 and one was a run-out. Hoggard took the first wicket of Sri Lanka's second innings.

On the fourth day, both runs and wickets pretty much doubled from what I can remember, Sri Lanka are ahead and it's slipping away from England... bet we'll be really rubbish according to the papers tomorrow

Sri Lanka look to have dug in for the draw. Sounds like there were quite a few dropped catches.

Yup, we cocked up badly, although the weather didn't help, how often would the weather come to our rescue in the past?

In the 2nd test, England's bowlers have come good this morning, the last 5 wickets falling for 12 runs. England's target to win is 78.
