Gutted for Red Bull. That would probably have been the best team performance yet from them if they'd finished. Hopefully it's a good sign of things to come.

Still a bit concerned about his engine though for the next race with the puffs of smoke coming out. Hopefully will be ok. Engines could be a big concern for the next race I expect because: 1. The demands of Bahrain are high on engines, with the sand and long straights 2. These engines aren't to be inactive for as long as four weeks. If you remember when BAR had the 2 race ban in 2005, they had to use the same engine they ran 5 weeks prior, and they had to drop the revs massively to make the engine last. With Lewis they may change the engine, which may not be the worst thing that could happen

Is it really four weeks until the next race?! What a load of sh*te. The calendar is awful!

Sadly yes. I guess they assumed that San Marino would go ahead as planned in a fortnight, or possibly Suzuka would host a race around about this time, but neither materialised for various reasons
The scheduling of this season has been awful. There was no good reason for a 3 week gap between Oz and Malaysia, and no good reason for 4 weeks between Bahrian and Spain. They were going out of their way to avoid as many back to back events as possible. Still, it isn't as bad as having a 5 week gap between the final 2 rounds of the season in 1998!!!

I see that in the odds for this years Sport's Personality of the Year, Lewis Hamilton is way out in front (13/8), with Andy Murray the only vaguely close challenger (7/2). It would be a good result if that occurred in December and I can very much see that happening

So can I. The cricket team are awful, the football team are awful, I can't see the Rugby team doing anything. There's no major Athletics tournament. If the boxers couldn't win last year I don't think they'll win this year. Murray winning Wimbledon is probably the only thing that'll stop him, IMO.

The World Athletics Championship is this year but I'm not sure we will actually win anything there. Hamilton has a great chance of the award though I'd only want him to win it if actually wins a race or two. Andy Murray is definitely the major opposition. The only other thing I could see stopping one of those is if a British golfer wins a major (almost happened at the Masters)...

Spanish GP this weekend, and based on testing in the last few weeks I expect Ferrari have pulled ahead of McLaren a bit. Red Bull seem to be the major gainers in the midpack, with Williams slipping back a bit after a disasterous test. Incidentally, Michael Schumacher will attend his first GP since his retirement in Spain It has been announced that Valencia will host the European GP from next season. But what I don't understand is that it is a street circuit rather than the permanent circuit in Valencia. Still, the track layout looks quite good: Everything has gone a bit quiet on the Singapore GP rumours, but there is talk it won't happen at all in 2008 Edit: Singapore for 2008 has been confirmed today!! Here's the layout:

But it looks like Malaysia 2008 might be the first night race in F1 ever. Plus it's looking positive that Suzuka will be back, but unlikely that Imola will return.
Great qualifying today! I think that was Massa's finest ever qualifying lap, and I expect he has more fuel than Alonso. Hamilton and Heidfeld are heavily fuelled I expect. Alonso had superb race pace yesterday, I think he could win tomorrow, but as ever it's difficult to tell which of those front 4 will win

For the second race in a row Alonso was seriously disappointing relative to Hamilton. He is really rattled being beaten by Hamilton - reminiscent of this time three years ago when in Spain, Nurburgring and Monaco Trulli had a clear edge over Alonso. In Monaco he was so desperate to beat Trulli that he threw it in the wall. Same with Canada 2005 and USA 2006, Fisi was quicker than him, and he made a huge error in Canada that year by crashing. The next 3 circuits are Monaco, Canada and the US, and they aren't his favourite tracks, so hopefully we'll see the true composure of the champion in the coming weeks.
I think we're looking at the serious possibility of the established but more junior members of each of the front two teams (Massa and Hamilton) will be contesting the title. Alonso and Raikkonen aren't out of it just yet, but they need to work harder to fully adapt to their new teams. With performances like today however, I can see Massa winning the title this season.
Great race from the other point scorers DC, Rosberg, Kovy and Sato. Super Aguri leading the way to the works Honda team in the points - how embarrassing!

Also worthy of note is the fact that Lewis Hamilton is now leading the Drivers Championship despite not having won a race.

And if he keeps finishing 2nd and 3rd there's no reason why he won't win it...

I wonder who would be leading the championship if the pre-2003 points system was still used? Frankly I doubt it'd be Lewis Hamilton.

Aus:
Raikkonen - 10 Alonso - 6 Hamilton - 4 Heidfeld - 3 Fisichella - 2 Massa - 1
Mal:
Alonso - 10 Hamilton - 6 Raikkonen - 4 Heidfeld - 3 Massa - 2 Fisichella - 1
Bah:
Massa - 10 Hamilton - 6 Raikkonen - 4 Heidfeld - 3 Alonso - 2 Kubica - 1
Spa:
Massa - 10 Hamilton - 6 Alonso - 4 Kubica - 3 Coulthard - 2 Rosberg - 1
Overall:
1 (3) Massa - 23 2 (2) Alonso - 22 3 (1) Hamilton - 22 4 (4) Raikkonen - 18 5 (5) Heidfeld - 9 6 (6) Kubica - 4 7 (7) Fisichella - 3 8 (9) Coulthard - 2 9 (8) Rosberg - 1
Two wins for Massa would've benefitted him far more.

Alonso on pole for Monaco then. Hamilton looked quick earlier on in qualifying, but he overdrove his final flying laps. I'm sure that cost him pole as I suspect he is lighter of fuel than Alonso. Fisi, Rosberg and Webber drove excellently for 4th, 5th and 6th but I think they are much lighter on fuel than the two BMWs, who, even fuel-corrected under-performed today.
Coulthard's penalty for blocking Kovy was justified. That is the most blatent example of blocking since Michael last year!!
And speaking of which huge LOL at Kimi's incident and where he parked!! Shame for him though, as he would have been much more equipped to challenge the McLarens in Monaco than Massa
