we were so close tonight. can't believe birmingham equalised in stoppage time! from the sounds of sky sports news we nearly got it straight back but had a shot cleared off the line. haven't seen the final game stats but apart from the last 10 mins it sounds like we had them contained and according to tony cottee who was watching it for sky sports, they only had one shot before then. still, 1-1 is a good result away to birmingham, tho it would've been one hell of a result if we'd kept all three points. atleast the future's looking brighter now than it was at the beginning of the season

i've checked on who our next game is and found that it's another game that could turn things round. we have top of the league derby coming to ours. hopefully we can get ahead and hold on this time. but again, i suppose i'd be satisfied with a draw. i think it's just the way that we came to the result against birmingham that makes it seem like more of a bad result than it really is.

I hope Sunderland get promoted, we need a proper north east derby, Newcastle v Boro doesn't cut it. So long as Sunderland don't win the derby games I will be happy! 1-4 was the last score I believe hupin I believe the game is on youtube...

I'm impressed by the job Roy Keane's done at Sunderland. I didn't expect them to challenge for promotion this season but they're up there in the mix. Then again, what does that say about the Championship?

If he gets Sunderland promoted and they do fine he could be the next manager of Man Utd, assuming Fergie stays long enough. I think Ferguson may call it quits after this season if Man Utd win either / or both the Premiership and the Champions League. In which case it will be too early for Keane.

no offence meant MrH. by that comment, I'm sure you knew what I meant Yeah, I know. The rivalry with the mackems is always going to be bigger but other than you lot and Sunderland, the closest thing we get to a derby is when we play Leeds and that doesn't look like happening for quite a while... The game against Newcastle is often one of our biggest of the season (except when we're chasing a place in Europe) but I get the impression the Newcastle fans only see it as big game when they win.

I was gonna ask what you considered a proper derby and you've just answered it. How far away from the Boro is Leeds? I would have thought it was further than Sunderland or Newcastle.

It is further away, hence my point. Leeds is about 60-70 miles away but I don't see it as a derby. Some older fans tend to due to the fact Middlesbrough was once part of Yorkshire. After Newcastle, our nearest current Premiership team is Blackburn, so you can see why games against Newcastle mean something to Boro fans.

I like Darlington, shame they are being overshadowed by Hartlepool this season. I guess the Pool will be getting promoted though, they are doing very well.

darlington will derby with ya lol they do have a five year plan to get to the premiership, one problem is that was 6 year ago I'm sure they would! Problem is, we've only been in the same division (old Division 3) as them twice. Both times we got promoted and they got relegated. They did knock us out of the FA Cup once... Amazingly, we've never played Hartlepool in the league. Our only competitive meetings with them were in the League Cup in 1986, just after we'd been forced to play our first league game of the season there. I like to see both clubs do well. Hartlepool are looking very good under Danny Wilson. It would've been interesting to see what they could've done if they'd reached the Championship a couple of years ago. Darlo just need a bit of consistency. Dave Penney's a good manager. I still have my doubts about the board there though, even with George Reynolds long gone...

It's even worse since York and Scarborough got relegated. The local TV up here covers Carlisle as well but that's just because the north-west companies can't be arsed. It's not part of our region at all. There's not much between Blackburn and Manchester in terms of distance. There's about 6 teams that are about 100-120 miles away but Blackburn is just the closest, I think. The next nearest may well be Sheffield United.
