anybody else think if this happens which is likely that it is very unfair. The man has got derby promoted but quite obviously derby are out of there depth in the top tier but i dont think it warrants the sack i mean did derby fans expect much more ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/iQNFaLKvAhue0vpkMytp.gif)

I agree. To an extent Billy Davies has become a victim of his own success and achieving too much too soon. When he came into the job he was given a 3 year plan to get Derby back into the Premiership. He achieved this target within 1 year, but Derby weren't really ready for the Premiership, financially or in terms of ability.

Watford struggled last season, but that wasn't a cause for a managerial change. Clubs are too impatient and expect the world!

It is daft yes, what did they expect? Chairman need to show loyalty imo, if they were getting hammered 9-0 every week, then maybe the manager had lost the players, but that isn't the case. When they appoint the new guy and he takes them back to the championship, do they sack him as well? Maybe he could go back to Preston! They need help!

well when pardew got sacked last year everyone was saying he is a victim of his own sucess. turns out he was shagging pretty much everyones g/f's lol and lost the dressing room 100% so you never know what goes on internally. like i said davies has said a few times he is going to quit or walk away so it was less than a stable situation for the football club. its a bit narrow minded basing this all on how derby have performed, i really dont think it has a great deal to do with that. they expect to go down and a win against sunderland at the weekend and they are back in contention to stay up

I hope the only beating of Sunderland they do is their all-time low Premiership points!

But taking away my somewhat obvious bias I somehow doubt it is all down to results and I reckon something else has gone on...

You might even say they were unlucky to lose to Chelsea - they had a goal incorrectly ruled out when it was 1-0, and they also complained about a possible foul during the build-up to their 2nd goal... they're still only four points away from 17th, and that could be just one if they beat Sunderland. So a harsh decision, if it was for football reasons.

Agree, Derby are a classic example of how winning promotion at your first attempt doesn't always achieve success. Those clubs who have had at least one failed promotion attempt (Ipswich, West Ham under Pardew, and John Madejski's brick by brick approach at Reading with the club winning promotion both from League 1 and the Championship) are always better prepared for the step up. Watford are a very similar club to Derby in many ways, new manager achieves promotion via the playoffs in a similar timescale, but a team not ready for the Prem. Look where they are this season. I think the sacking has more to do with Davies' outburst at the weekend saying he hadnt spoken to the chairman for weeks and wants money to bring in 5 or 6 quality players. The chairman refuted this, saying he's been in regular contact with Davies, and also seemed to have more faith in the current squad so wouldnt be splashing money on players left right and centre. It will be interesting to see what Derby's new manager Paul Jewell can do. I reckon they may bring themselves back into contention, but i still think they'll go down at the end of the season.

why has paul jewell chose derby ahead of wigan ![???](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/esILxNpvyilHqdGouUWP.gif) Because he'd already taken Wigan as far as he could and wants a new challenge. It'll be difficult to stay up this season but with the right backing, Derby have the potential to be Premier League regulars again in the future.
