Before I get on to the film, I have to set the scene! It was Sports Relief in Birmingham yesterday and it was very difficult to get to the only cinema showing it in town, UGC on Broad Street. The road was closed, no buses to it or anything and it's quite a way from the station. However, the place was packed with people to watch the docu/movie! And it was well worth the hassle!!!
I wont give away much of the plot. Director Michael Moore basically provided commentary over a mass of extremely well put together clips. There was lots of news footage, some of his own interviews, and some footage from Iraq. A brilliant part was when he stood on Capital Hill trying to get the Senators and Congressmen to sign up their own children. The looks on some of their faces ;D. The movie was at once tragic and hilarious. It was also very personal, especially the focus on one woman who was initially pro-war and sent her son off to Iraq…<br> It's a real eye-opener and a well deserved expose of the corruption of President Bush and his cronies and the inequality that is so alive and rampant in America today. Blair wasn't in it much but when he did appear everyone booed! ;D ;D ;D. There is some gory footage from Iraq, the film is only a 15 and it's quite extreme. In all a very good movie and well worth venturing to your nearest art house cinema or a massive multiplex for.
9/10.

Box Office Mojo reports that it's made over $80m worldwide so far. No UK info yet though.

;D I watched it yesterday and overall I'm impressed.
It's certainly funny in parts - mainly because you have a chance to laugh at how ridiculous the Americans are - the threat of terrorist cows and the skyscraper parachute made me guffaw. George Bush when he appeared came across as a completely rambling, idiotic tit. But dangerous as hell too, and the way he gives so many of his friends' companies contracts created by this dishonest war is complete corruption of the highest level.
I thought it was rambling in parts though - there was no cohesion in the film and some of the examples they used were a bit too obvious. For example, the woman who's son was killed in Iraq who changed from a pro-war person to someone who hated the president was very moving but surely the overall message should be war's bad at any time.
No mention was made of Sadam's record in human rights, which was misleading and unnecessary.
However, I think this movie will completely energise the anti Bush vote and despite his faults, Michael Moore is getting off his arse and doing something against all that's wrong in the world today. And for that I salute him.
