COMMENTS[/i]
The top two new entries this week are both from bands whom I saw live last month... and the support act beat the main feature! Alfie's début hit, 'No Need', just fails to reach the number one spot, behind Snow Patrol who stay on for a fourth week. Next week, they would equal the all-time record by staying on. Elbow, meanwhile, only enter at #5 with 'Not A Job', which wasn't played at the aforementioned concert!
Just behind them, Keane rise to #6, and Lostprophets stick again at #7. One more entry in the top 10 to report - The Stills make a shock entry at #8 - I first heard the song on Saturday!
Three low new entries, including one début hit for the Fiery, Fiery Furnaces, with the Tropical Icy, Icy Land. . With disappointing positions in the bottom ten, BRMC and Placebo make minor dents in the chart. In truth, 'Six Barrel Shotgun' deserves to be higher, but the strength of the singles just ahead of it - even the magnificent Muse have slipped out of the top 20 - keeps it at bay.
The biggest faller this week are Mew, who make another big drop and have gone down 15 places in two weeks. Elbow still hold on as the longest runners as well as having another top 5 hit, an incredible 18-week run stretching back to the end of October for 'Fugitive Motel' (their only #1), although they do slip to #29 this week.
Chart runs available on request. The new entries' chart histories infobase is currently undergoing an annual update.
