Belle & Sebastian get their 3rd #1 - yet I still haven't bought their album but I will.
- Riley make a high debut at #14, which is pretty good this time in the year, as the charts are much stronger.
- Bubbler Rank was credited in 1996 so I've credited him again (why not?). The single reached #5 back then and I believe that the top 4 that week were: 1. Tonight Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins, 2. Ocean Drive - Lighthouse Family, 3. Three Lions - Baddiel/Skinner/Lightning Seeds, 4. The Female Of The Species - Space. #6 was "The Day We Caught The Train" by Ocean Colour Scene. The following week it was all change as Space moved to #1 and Ocean Colour Scene climbed to #2, causing the 4 others to all move down, including Peter Andre, though the 3 Lions yoyoed: 3-5-3-1-3.
- Space also enter this week but with a new song. They had 5 #1s between 1996 and 1998, though they only managed 7 weeks total at #1. They also had a #1 album in 1998.
- Rather surprised that Luther Vandross did make it in - his first hit was uncredited, doing lead vocals on "Searching" by Change in 1980. Then he tried for a long time but never had a major UK hit until 1987's "I Really Didn't Mean It" went top 20. His biggest UK hit was "The Best Things In Life Are Free", a duet with Janet Jackson which reached #2 in 1992 and then #7 again a few years later. I don't have his full NM chart run.
