COMMENTS[/i]
Five new entries in the top half of the chart this week - so many quality songs recently that all but 3 of the top 15 have been there for three weeks or less Ash return this week, after just over a year out, and go straight to #1 with download-only single 'Clones', which denies Snow Patrol a record-equalling fifth week at #1. Surely now nobody will beat the record of Feeder. Belle and Sebastian stay at #3, still in strong contention with the top 2. Blink 182 also do very well and score another top 5 hit with 'I Miss You'...
Three débutants join the well-established bands in the top half of the chart aswell this week. Riley's gorgeousnessosity and Goldfrapp's chilledness get them to #7 and #9 respectively, while The Shins are unlucky to go top 10 aswell with 'So Says I' (sp?), entering instead at #13.
With all these high new entries, it's no surprise that all but one of the songs slip from their previous positions this week. 'Fugitive Motel' finally drops out after an incredible 18-week run, which means that the new longest runner is Radiohead's '2+2=5', with 15 weeks and counting in the chart. It has just dropped 5 places to #18. From #18 falls the biggest drop of the week, The Rapture's 'I Need Your Love', slipping 11 places and only just remaining in the chart.
One final new entry down in the dregs of the chart: Love Inc are let in at the 2nd attempt with 'Into The Night', but The Mars Volta must try again next week as 'Televators' takes five minutes to get going and only gets to the fringes of the chart. With a slightly less active week this time around, can it sneak in?
