12 new entries this week, and a big climb for Embrace, who look the most likely to challenge the Streets for #1.
A good week for pop - McFly get the highest entry and Brian McFadden also gets a decent entry. It's a good week in general for new entries, with the Delgados, Nick Cave and Fountains Of Wayne also entering inside the top 50.
The Kinks enter with their 40-year-old hit. They had an NM #1 in 1983 with "Come Dancing" and I think they also charted with "Days" in 1997. "You Really Got Me" was re-issued in 1983 but failed to reach the NM chart then, although it peaked at #47. In fact it was released around the same time as their new single "Don't Forget To Dance" which also did even worse. "Don't Forget To Dance" was their last original single to reach the top 75 as Days was a re-issue of their 1968 hit, and in 1997 it was part of an EP which also included "You Really Got Me".
Gomez enter this week - they had a #1 single and album in 1998 and two #3 hits in 1999 but their fortunes have faded since then. I think this single was chart-ineligible because it didn't even reach the top 200.
