For a Christmas chart, we have 13 new entries, most of them indie/rock orientated, so you wouldn't know that I am actually clearing the backlog. Actually the chart was a bit contrived so that those released on 6 December would have priority for entry, as they will be ineligible for the next chart. The bubblers will effectively make up all the potential entries for the next chart, and after that there'll be a bit of new material about.
Although there is action near the bottom with all those new entries, the top 5 is static, the top 3 has been unchanged in 4 weeks - yes it's a very strong top 3, but really we could do with a change. Kylie is emerging as the strongest immediate challenger, Joss Stone remaining static this week, Green Day making only a small climb, and with Jethro Tull being a seasonal offering unlikely to be able to maintain its momentum after the break. However, behind and waiting in the wings Morrissey and Robbie are climbing nicely and could throw up a challenge to the top.
