These threads on #1's and #2's just gets me to thinking on all my favourite songs that are ineligible because they didn't do so well chartwise, assuming they were even singles.
Some incredible songs have well underachieved in terms of the fickle record buying public judgment but they are still memorable.
I know my all time chart - with no bars - with be completely different to the #1's one.
Of course some would still be right in there but, oh so many would miss out to number two's and number tens and number XXX's
A thought for another day perhaps.

I would love to do this but I think I'd find it nearly impossible to do.

Ocean Deep by Cliff Richard definitely top 3.
Classic bungle by EMI putting it on B-side and then elevating it to double-A after the impetus was lost.

Are there any eligibility rules to this? e.g. limited to singles only.
I have a short list of 382, almost all singles as I have always gone for them and not albums but I do have a few tracks which were never released as singles.

Okay then. Out go:
Battlefield Diana Ross Andante, Andante Abba For Life Cliff Richard Look Homeward Angel Cliff Richard Back To You Steps
Down to 377 now.
Do they have to have been officially released in the UK?

I'd say if you love a song include it
album tracks whatever
clearly if they were being collated for a grand total of points its more likely that ones that have been single hits would score better across more people but ...
wasn't really my aim

The top 100 songs of alltime is a personal thing to each person, it wont be done on point or anything like the #1s... I personally would just pick songs that have been released in the UK, but that is just me...

All right, if it's just personal I'm going to include everything in my list.

Eventually 111. With so many choices it would be a shame not to acknowledge the 11 which miss out.
Honourable Mention:
The Little Girl I Once Knew Beach Boys El Lute Boney M I Get Weak Belinda Carlisle Let's Get Together Again Glitter Band Doesn't Really Matter Janet Jackson Elusive Butterfly Bob Lynd I Will Always Love You Dolly Parton Keep Searchin' Del Shannon Stop! Spice Girls That Don't Impress Me Much Shania Twain
and the one I always feel sorry for which misses out by one place.
101 Sitting Down Here Lene Marlin

Thanks for reminding me, rm. Just had a listen to the definitive version of Without You by Mariah C. Divine. Was in the last 382 but just missed out on the top 111.
I was lucky to be give my mum's collection of 7" vinyl so although my "growing up with music" period was really from the mid 70s I know a lot of the 50s and 60s songs. The collection includes one of the rare copies of Honky Tonk Angel.
