Without so many good singles and B-sides, the only thing that seemed to be holding back Elvis from reaching #1 was the bias against re-issues - oh and that the Wedding Present happened to have a single out, which earlier on prevented "It's Now Or Never" from reaching #1.
When the Wedding Present released a single a month in 1992, it was the 7th single, Flying Saucer, which reached #1. With the Elvis releases, it is also the 7th single, with All Shook Up counting as the first, that has topped the chart. That it would be "Wooden Heart" would certainly have surprised me but in fact it's the B-side of Wooden Heart, "Tonight Is So Right For Love", which has driven this single to the top, and I am strongly tempted to remove the credit to "Wooden Heart" altogether. Although he has fewer singles in the chart than he did two weeks ago (this week one dropped out and last week 2 did) he now has a higher presence in the top 10, with 3 of the singles in there. (Last week he just missed, holding the positions 6, 9 and 11).
My Chemical Romance re-enter the chart at #7, one place higher than it peaked last October. Back then it climbed to #8 the same week Akira The Don's Drinking Song climbed from 47 to 7 on the way to #1.
That one and Phantom Planet are both re-entries, and Elvis's Good Luck Charm is of course a re-issue so of the 14 entries, only 11 are actually new singles. (Tony Christie is not due into the chart until next week, i.e. the chart of 19 March).
