020 Head Automatica - Beating Heart Baby Baby is this love for real? Let me in your arms to feel....Released in January, this went almost completely un-noticed in the Uk. Why? I don't know, it's an excellent song and deserving of so much better. Never heard anything else by them and don't know anything else about them but anyone who doesn't know it should check it out or ask me for it. One of four songs in my top 20 that never reached the UK top 40. 019 Futureheads - Area You have to stay in a hotel, as your house was falling to pieces....The second of three Futureheads songs in this countdown and one of just 3 acts to have two songs in the top 20. One of the others, you can probably guess, the other, you might not....If this is a sign of how good their second album is going to be then it will probably be even better than their first. Reached number one for me but was knocked off after a week by a song still to come. 018 Antony and the Johnsons - Hope There's Someone Hope there's someone who'll set my heart free, nice to hold when i'm tired.....The first time i heard this i nearly cried Just the most beautiful lyrics sung by a man with the most powerful voice. I downloaded it as soon as i knew what it was along with 'Cripple and the Starfish' which is even better than this. He deservedly won the Mercury Prize in September(?) and although i haven't heard all of the album, what i have heard is amazing. Peaked at number 5 for me but the British public failed to make it a top 40 hit 017 Maximo Park - Graffiti I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French, what are we doing here if romance isn't dead?....My favourite band i've discovered this year and one one of 3 bands to have 3 top 20 songs. This was their second release and like their first 'Apply Some Pressure' it went to the top of my chart. I did go off this track for a while but now when i listen to the album it's one of the best. Would be going to see them on the NME tour next year but some c*nts decided to make Nottingham over 18s only 016 KT Tunstall - Black Horse and the Cherry Tree My heart knows me better than I know myself, so I'm gonna let it do all the talking....Probably a surprise inclusion, or atleast a surprise placing anyway. This song made me buy the album before it even went top 75 let alone before she became one of the biggest breaktrhough acts of the year and it went on to sell over 800,000 copies (Go me! #cheer# ). The album isn't THAT good but is excellent in places. This and 'Another Place To Fall' are easily the highlights. I would also never have thought that 6 of my top 16 of the year would feature female vocals. And 3 of those could be in my top 100.

050 Arcade Fire - Power OutNot a song i charted or even knew of when it was released. The release of Rebellion made me buy the album and although it took a while to grow on me, this became one of the standout tracks off it. exactly the same story here... 049 Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous;D 048 The Strokes - Juice Box 047 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way;D 046 Beck - Girl

015 Royksopp - Only This Moment Stay or forever go, play or you'll never know, your spirit's divided, you will decide if I'm all you've been waiting for....So, the other band with two songs in the top 20 ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/Kwn0BjsNURZTBPjgpQCU.gif) By FAR the best dance act of the year. I really need to get their albums because they are truely amazing. I SO need some money to spend in the sales ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/xKFbNBMdczwHHIvwbxXw.gif) This is one of the most beautiful songs of the year and the male/female vocal combination works exceptionally well. Their first of two songs to peak at number one this year for me but not quite their best. Also, it's yet another song released in the middle of the year that i haven't listened to much recently but when i did again not so long ago it was oh so beautiful. 014 Louis XIV - Finding Out True Love Is Blind Wind me up and make me crawl to you, tie me up and make me call to you....As with all of the other songs on this countdown that have been re-released this year (Munich, Decent Days and Nights and yes, Apply Some Pressure  ) doesn't do quite as well as it would have without being re-released. One of my tracks of the summer and also the song i've listened to the most this year, as my Audioscrobbler says. This made me go and buy the album, and what a fabulous album it is. This song peaked at number 3 in my chart earlier in the year and then at number one prior to its re-release a couple of months ago. 013 Interpol - Evil It's the thought that holds you upwards, embracing me with two hands....Didn't think much to this or Interpol themselves when it was released, hence the number 35 peak but over the past few months i've fell in love with it. Just one of the most fantastic pieces of music released and yet another band i should own something of. Why do i listen to so much music, SO expensive, i need a job  Anyway, a fantastic song by a band that deserve more. Probably the best song on the album but i don't know if it's as good as 'Obstacle 1' as their best song. 012 The Bravery - An Honest Mistake Sometimes, I forget I'm still awake, I fuck up and say these things out loud....IMO a better band than The Killers, not just better but a lot better. It's a shame their album didn't do as well as it should've and that they didn't live up to the hype that surrounded them at the beginning of the year but their album is still one of the years best in my eyes. This, their second song on this chart and only one to reach number one is probably the best on the album but the album is mostly filled with good songs. 011 Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc You got a new horizon, it's ephemeral style, a melancholy town where we never smile....As i said with Dare, this has been a fantastic year for the Gorillaz. This, the standout track off the album was the song that made me a proper fan. Never have i thought a cartoon band would be so good, but they are. Despite spending over 20 weeks on my chart Feel Good Inc never peaked higher than number 13 yet i have no idea why.

010 The Go! Team - Bottle Rocket So come on everybody, let's rock this break, break....The Go! Team are one of the most fabulous bands of the year. Their album is amazing and although most of the tracks are just instrumental they're the most fabulous instrumental tracks in a long while. Not to mention Ninja is like the one of the best people in music when she does sing. There are better songs on the album but this is easily the best song with vocals. Reached number 7 on my chart not so long ago.

009 Coldplay - Talk Take a picture of something you see, in the future where will I be....Probably my second favourite Coldplay song after Shiver is this, Talk. Fantastic song but the credit really is down the Kraftwerk sample. Even a lot of the haters think this is good so it must be. Due to climb to number one in my chart next week.

008 Royksopp - What Else Is There? It was me on that road, still you couldn't see me...So, it may be quite weird but it's just brilliant a sends shivers down my spine whenever i hear it. The album version is brilliant in itself but then Jaq Lu Cont remixed it to make it even better though that's hardly surprising as everything he touches turns to gold  The highest placed song with a female singer.

007 Stereophonics - Dakota Sleeping in the back of my car, we never went far, didn't need to go far....The song that gave Stereophonics their first number one in the UK and deservedly so. Nearly everyone liked this at the time, it was so good. A brilliant return to form and the best track off their best album of the decade.

006 Willy Mason - Oxygen On and on and on it goes, the world it just keeps spinning....Incredibly talented, this guy is. One of the best singer-songwriters to come through this year and much better than Blunty. This is the standout track on the album for me but the whole album is great. His second song in this countdown which peaked at number 7 for me in January. Oh and best single cover of the year
