Commentary
This is regretably not the most interesting of charts. Nothing new and big really hit the charts this week. The highest debut (The Heinrich Maneuver by Interpol) only hit 16. While likely to move higher, I can't forsee it top five. I adore Interpol, but this isn't my absolutely favorite by them.
The biggest shock most likely is Rihanna hitting number one. When I debuted Kate Nash's single 'Foundations', I thought it would obviously hit number one the next chart, but Rihanna is standing strong. I don't know if she'll be able to hold off Foundations for another week, though. It'll all depend on my moom, and as of now it'll probably be the most interesting part of the chart.
Paramore and Hellogoodbye both break into the top five for the first time with their singles 'Misery Business' and 'Here (In Your Arms)'. The White Stripes also break into the top ten with their hit Icky Thump, a welcome return to their older style (almost like their Self-Titled CD mixed with a bit of White Blood Cells and Elephant). Can it make top 5? The Killers continue to inch up the chart while Melanie C and Arctic Monkeys creep into the top 20. Melanie C has the biggest chart jump with her hit 'Carolyna', though it is admittably a rather unimpressive jump only moving from 25 to 20.
The Smashing Pumpkins and Editors also have broken into the chat with their new singles from their new albums. CSS (Cansei de ser Sexy) also make a return with a rerelease of their song 'Let's Make Love,' a lovely indie dance track. Will the next chart be more exciting? Can Kate Nash hit number one or will Umbrella hold Nash off? Will Rihanna's new single Shut Up & Drive match the impressive success of Umbrella? All of this coming soon.
