This week I had a huge playlist, and there were quite a few "big names" on it. On this chart though your name counts for nothing, it's what you put out that counts.
Whilst Britney Spears is not a "big name" on the NM chart (and Leona Lewis certainly isn't), Oasis are - they have had 8 NM #1 singles, however hits are never guaranteed even for them. Nevertheless it would appear Lord Don't Slow Me Down is likely to be their worst performing single ever, their previous worst "Who Feels Love" peaked at #36 in 2000.
At least they got into the chart. Take That didn't even manage that. The last time they failed to chart with a single was in 1994 with "Sure". Their next single got to NM #1 though so you never know what is going to be round the corner.
Back to Oasis, they won the poll on Haven for the best UK #1 album ever, and they had the second best too. I often feel that the real strength of an album is that every track on it is a bit of a classic, and in particular many of the tracks that were not singles are fairly famous. So I think most people would know the song "She's Electric". Anyway, in one part of that song it goes "I'll be you and you'll be me, lots and lots for us to see, lots and lots for us to do...". That was actually based on a children's TV show called "Me And You", which had a theme that went "Me and you, you and me, lots of things for us to see, lots of things for us to do, you and me, me and you".
Which leads us on to this week's highest new entry and also this week's 7th highest entry. And also the number of male/female uptempo vocal songs out right now. 586, Slow Club and Los Campesinos...
I still have his cd from a few years ago, not bad at all.
